Please pray for a situation that has come up. We have 4 adopted children still living at home and have always wanted one more. China changed the rules a few years ago saying that no parents using wheelchairs may adopt. As most of you know, my dh Ed uses a wheelchair (he had a benign spinal tumor at age 23). We have kept praying and hoping. We heard yesterday of a 13 y.o. Chinese orphan who is in the States right now for treatment of serious facial burns. She ages out of the possibility of adoption early next year.
When my precious children saw her very scarred face and hand in photos, they said only the sweetest things. My 8 y.o. said "she needs to be loved, Mommy." My 11 y.o ds, who really has difficulty sharing things, volunteered to give up his room for her (that's really huge for him, really huge).

We seem to meet all the criteria except the wheelchair issue. The agency helping to find a family for her sent us the application forms and suggested a letter from our doctor saying that Ed's disability in no way hampers him from being an active and involved father. They will fax all these papers to Beijing on Monday and on Monday night the officials will read them and consider them.

PLEASE pray that the Chinese officials will have a change of heart, see this girl's plight (really tragic story) and see a loving family eager to embrace her. The agency says it all comes down to the wheelchair issue. If you could see her and read her story, your heart would break. We SO want to love her. We know that miracles happen, so would you pray for one?

I will be praying for your intention for sure, Mary Alice. When will you know if you will be allowed to adopt her?

Your family sounds so welcoming, how could the Chinese officials NOT see that letting you adopt her would be a good thing. Maybe they don't understand how much more "easy" it is to get around in a wheelchair in Kansas than in China?
