I understand why- they take a percentage now, even if you are using non-credit card PP. But I miss it. Those were the good old days, weren't they... you could just click a few times and payment was sent.

Now we're back to the old, old days of mailing a check-at least that has been my experience buying books lately. It reminds me of way back when you had to call in a catalog order or fill out a form and mail it.

Everything cycles.... but my lazy self misses the days when people *preferred* Pay Pal

If this is for things like a parent selling their homeschooling books, extra baby carriers, etc, you should to the the Well Trained Mind forums and search for a thread about this. Several people have asked paypal if it is OK to use the "personal" payment option for these transactions instead of saying it's "payment for goods", and they said YES. So you can do it with no fee. But that *does* leave you with no recourse if the transaction goes sour (ie you don't get your product). Just FYI.

And FWIW, I still like paypal - I don't mind paying a small fee for the big convenience. I'd rather NOT, but nothing in life is free, lol.

Two thoughts:
If you are buying something, you are receiving goods. Saying otherwise is lying, in my opinion.
Paypal is doing everyone a service. The fee in nominal, especially on the small amounts that we are buying and selling. Like Amy said, it is worth the convenience.

I think it is a knee-jerk reaction to no longer accept Paypal. I do not want to wait for a check, take it to the bank, then wait for it to clear!

I use paypal for my business (and personal use) and just absorb the costs. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't add up to that much (though I like to keep every penny I can!), BUT for the saving of the hassle of bounced checks, etc, it is SO worth it. (with that said, I accept checks - I just wait for them to clear). Paypal is still far less expensive than authorize.net and other online payment services.

I'll even sometimes pay the fees when I'm paying someone else for a personal thing - just to help out a bit.

I have been thinking of that- offering to pay a buck or two more for the convenience. I don't buy *that much* with it. I'm just gathering books for next fall, and so far only one person has let me pay with my Pay Pal account.
