Six weeks from now dh will be deploying for a year.
I'm starting to get a bit anxious. I know the kids and I will be fine. I have bigger kids that can help as needed and really I'm blessed to have a fairly mellow bunch that roll with the punches quite well. We've got a great setup here on base. Don't have to worry about yard work or maintenance issues-- big plusses in my book.
We've done a little preparation. We've recorded him reading some of the children's' favorite picture books. We're planning on having an extra blog that's for him only and we're already set up with skype.
{{sigh}} I just have quiet moments when it hits me that he'll be gone a whole fat year. I think once we're in the midst of it, it'll go by pretty well. At least it did for the other deployments and TDYs (temporary duty). But even the longest deployment was 3 months. Most of the military wives say this part is the hardest. Once he's gone it gets better. I suppose...
I do very well most days--but I'm starting to have dreams at night where I have to say goodbye and that brings on a flood of emotions.
So I guess I'm asking for you ladies to pray for me. For my children and for the safety of my husband. He'll be stationed in Qatar, but will travel downrange to both Iraq and Afghanistan throughout the year.
Thank you so very much.
Amy

Amy-
Be assured of my prayers. May God bless your husband and keep him safe.
Please tell him (and the rest of your family) thank you for making this sacrifice for us all.

Amy,
The time before really is the hardest. Once you get into the groove, it goes get easier. Also, the week right after he leaves will be arduous to say the least. Make sure it's an easy one.
We are at the beginning of month 4. At times it seems it has flown by and at other times it seems it's never going to end.
I will pray for you and your family.

Amy, I so understand how you feel. The longest my dh was ever gone was nine months (pre-email, though!).
This time is so hard because you want everything to be perfect and happy - but you are worrying, so it's too stressful for perfection. And family members, well-meaning though they might be, are filled with depressing statements and questions.
I usually tell people that the first and last 6 weeks of any deployment are the worst. It doesn't get better, ever. It just gets routine. You will get into a groove that sort of works for you, and you'll figure out whom to call when crises occur.
Please, feel free to PM me any time if you need to vent or ask questions or anything.

Oh, Amy! That stinks! We will pray for you all. If you need a break and some distractions, the door is always open down here in VA! We'll just pull out the sleeping bags.
