Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My third DD was a c-section and now with the fifth we've decided to have a c-section again. I'm more prepared mentally this time, because the first time she moved to breech in the last 3 weeks and I was doing everything I could to get her to turn.

So my question is, for all you that have had a c-section, did you use any kind of post-partum support type garment. I remember hating to wear anything with a waistband for a long time (I'm still not fond of waistbands). I was hoping some support on my lower abdomen might help relieve some of the pressure of a waistband.

There are so many out there, I wanted to see what people have liked. I've been using the Jeunique pre-natal support this pregnancy and it has helped with my vein issues and they make a post c-section support, but I'm afraid it might not be supportive enough.

Any suggestions would be great! We're having the baby April 5 if all continues to go as planned and my oldest has FHC on the 24th! So, I have to be able to get reasonably dressed and make it out of the house with the baby in public fairly quick.

Our baby #5 was my 3rd c-section. Because I was "older" by doctor ordered a "binder" for me to wear. The thought of it worried me, but after I started wearing it I didn't want to stop! It was very helpful and I was actually more comfortable with it on. Since you've had a c-section before you probably know the feeling that comes when you cough or something. I was always afraid I was going to burst my stitches. The binder helps support your abdomen a little.
And, when it's time to go out into public early after the baby is born, while it might add a little in your distance around , it will give you a smoother appearance right away. One other benefit comes to mind - if you have young children that like to climb up in your lap and don't understand what it means when someone says "be gentle, mommy just had an operation", the binder provides some protection! So, yes, a binder is helpful. If your doctor can order you one, the kind at the hospital are really high quality.

Thanks Becky! I have an appointment today, so I'll ask what he recommends. How old was "older"? I just hate the feeling of a waistband pushing down .

I just ordered a post-partum support from Motherhood which says it's particularly helpful for c-sections (this will be my fourth), and one of the things I have been dreading this time around is the "little ones in the lap" problem (I have 3 little ones who like to battle each other for the prime real estate of my lap.) So I'm glad to hear you found your binder helpful for this!!

I'm adding a few earlier threads on this.

Help! Need c-section belly binder ASAP!

c-section support

Since you're already familiar with Jeunique, I'll just say I did find their Tummy Tuck garment wonderful. It was very gentle, didn't put pressure on my stitches, but I did feel tucked in. Here's my lady who sells them:

Tummy Tuck from Colesce Fashions

I use her for my bras, and for nursing and large sizes these are such a lifesaver.

Bethany, for "older" I meant 43. That combined with it being my 5th baby and 3rd c-section caused my doctor to worry.
I don't know about other binders and how they fit so I really can't compare but I can describe the one I had:

It went from about 2" below my bra to my hips so it was quite long. But that was really what made it so supportive, and protective. It wasn't a tube but rather a flat piece that wrapped around and then velcroed to keep it on. It was heavy duty velcro because it never slipped.
Early on, I had to lay it out on my bed, lay down on top of it and bring the sides up around my abdomen to get it on. (Can you just picture that ? ) It sounds worse than it was though. In the hospital the nurses adjusted it for me. By the 2nd day home from the hospital I was an old pro at it.
It was pretty stiff, and I called it "my corset" but I think the stiffness is what helped me to feel comfortable holding my toddler and I didn't notice if my pants or skirts had a waist band.

Now, I should probably add one more thing because I think my incision is the other reason for the binder. For my 1st c-section it was an emergency and the doctor had to operate quickly. My incision goes from my naval down. Yes, it's ugly. But for the other 2 c-sections they just follow the same scar. Since it is so long, that might be another reason why the doctor ordered this for me.
When I see things like "belly bands" I don't think they would be nearly as supportive as this one was. I haven't checked Jennifer's links above so there might be something similar there.
HTH!

I had one after my csection with the twins (First csec, I was just past 33d bday).

I *HAD* to have something (I developed a cough while in the hospital, it lasted 6+ weeks!).

It was basically just a girdle...lol.Which was very nice..considering I got to measure 42wks when I was only 34 (had the boys at 34w1d)...lol

Thank you all! I'm in the hospital on bed rest and hubby just brought my laptop, so I'll have plenty of time to search my options.

I probably don't need the "corset" , but just need something to make me a little more comfortable. I'll have two that will want to be on Mama plus the baby, so I'll need some protection. Thanks again.
