Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 13-yo is doing Ad Altare Dei work for scouting. One of the questions, which has me stumped:

Quote:
The table in these readings (referring to scripture passages on the Last Supper) was in fact called a table. However, we today often refer to it as the altar. Why was the name changed?

It's one of the "holes" in my Catechism, I guess.

I didn't look this up, Stef, but I think it refers to the change after the First Mass. Before the Last Supper, it was the Passover Meal. With Jesus instituting the Eucharist, the first Mass that meal was transformed. It became a unbloody re-presentation of the Sacrifice of the Cross. It was part of the act of Redemption, elevating it to the holiest heights. It then became a Sacrifice to God, not just a meal anymore. So with that would come a change of terminology, because what was once a communal feast in observance now is part of Liturgy, and altars are used in worship.

That's not worded well, but can you see the difference?

ETA: I always think of this quote regarding this:

“Christ, our Paschal lamb, has been sacrificed!” (1 Cor 5:7).

Jenn, I never got to say thank you for this, so I'm saying "thank you" now. Come to think of it, I never found out what Paco's counselor said about his answer. This makes sense though. I'll post again if he was told any differently.
