Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ever done this? What did you give up??

I stopped watching TV, about a year ago.

Curious with what others have accomplished...

I quit smoking on April 11th, 1987. Only by God's grace was I able to do it.

wow.. very good you all

I don't think I've quit cold turkey.. but I quit drinking colas twice.. the first time because I started to notice the withdrawl symptoms and I didn't like it.. I was working at McDonald's (great for working around my college classes) and we'd get free soda.. so I just switched to water if I was thirsty, orange if I wanted something sweet and cola to hold off a withdrawl headache.. and it didn't take long at all.

the second time the caffiene had started to give me headaches so it was EASY to quit cold turkey.. it hurt more to drink it. And I haven't gone back.. not hard when you get slammed with a headache pretty hard if you slip up.

I also broke myself of nail biting. But again it was a gradual process.. I just kept painting my nails with polish.. blech

Yay for you! I'm so glad to be free from it, too.

It's the only way I can quit things. I've never quit anything big, or permanently, or nearly as challenging as smoking, but I have cut out sugar, caffeine, junk food for long-ish periods of time. I can't have one muffin or one cup of coffee--I just don't have enough self-control.

...in the process of detoxing from my life-long love affair with Coffee.

I'm still in love. Will always be in love. And probably always mourn the loss of the beloved little bean.

But alas, with my current state of UC sufferage, and my success with homeopathy, I must! ... I'm only on day 2. *But* I do love tea, and as long as I've got a nice cup of *hot* something, I'm all good

About two years ago, I cut out Diet Coke (and all other pop), plus all sugar (even hidden sugars in condiments, etc.). I went cold turkey, and I haven't gone back once. Like Molly, it's all or nothing for me. I'd just rather not take that first drink/bite, or I'll be right back at it. :)

Well, we cut off TV in October (actually, it died on us)...the dc watched some movies after that, but other than the occasional youtube video? Nada. I've seen it at friends' houses, and its really not all that, lol.

Let's see...I had to quit coke (dark cold carbonated beverage...ahhhhh) this week (ran out, and payday is Friday). I'm only just recovering from the headache. Two days. And it overlapped my "visitor's" arrival (which, since it had been 73 days since the last time, I wasn't exactly expecting lol! ). I'm one of those "cannot have it in the house" types of folks. I can't. I don't like coffee, other than the smell (DH says I can make a great cup, though, so go figure! lol). But a tall glass of something dark, caffeinated, and carbonated? Oh me oh my...

So it has been a real bunch of fun to be around *me* this week...

The going off of the cokes (again) will be a great thing for me though, diet-wise. Hopefully it will help in many different areas, which desperately need the help.

And, it will save me money, too. SIGH.

But I'd really like a 64 oz Great Big Humongous GULP right now...Dr Pepper...ahhhhh.....

LOL

I've been a good girl.

No caffeine for me since Monday (or was it Tuesday?). Either way, I've been a very good girl--even when I could have.

I have not, however, completely cut the carbonated monster out, but I'm getting there. Caffeine first, then the carbonation....the sweetness..the ice cold refreshment...ahhhh.

Now, back to my previously scheduled glass of ice water.

Yum.

I actually love giving things up "cold turkey." My personality finds relief in objective measures - either I'm doing something or not - either I'm drinking coffee or not. Call me simple .

Let's see....

coffee
soda
wheat
sleeping in
alcohol

come to mind. Some of these I have integrated back into my life after years of being off - but that's another topic.

Happy Easter, Nique

Love,

I haven't had a Diet Coke since Dec. 31! I had a serious love affair with Diet Coke for years. I did replace it with cola flavored Zevia for caffeine purposes. It has been eye opening for me to see how addicted I was. I actually still mourn the loss of the Diet Coke!
