Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

...and would love to use.

In the Beatrix Potter thread, I was reminded of how much I like the word SOPORIFIC.

I think it might be possible I have used the word before.

But one word I haven't used and would love to is

PERSPICACITY.

Isn't that a great word? I'm not sure I would find myself in a situation where using it would be anything less than pretentious. I'm sure I would make a wonderful Mrs. Malaprop in real life, lol!

Glorious!

It isn't my word, really, but rather my daughter's. Her favorite word to describe all of her daily encounters. She is 5 years old, which makes it all the more precious.

... a challenge to broaden my own vocabulary, I look forward to hearing all the words you love

I have to guess you are *not* talking about the portmanteau theorem

I was very impressed when a friend of mine used the word,

CAVALIER.

It fit so well in the context of our discussion and it effortlessly floated from her lips.

FELICITY

"Is there any felicity in the world superior to this?"

Makes me happy just to think about all the situations that could encompass. I LOVE using this word!

TACITURN

“for I have always seen a great similarity in the turn of our minds. We are each of an unsocial, taciturn disposition, unwilling to speak, unless we expect to say something that will amaze the whole room, and be handed down to posterity with all the éclat of a proverb.”

Seriously pretentious but I love it!

Against my will I had to use "longitudinally" the other day when talking with my dh about how to cut onions again.

Three words immediately came to mind - I love you.

When I first read the topic, without reading the posts, I thought it was about the words we love to hear from our children.

Not exactly a vocabulary booster, but I like "Awesome!"

Ah, yes, the context is part of the love. One reason I like perspicacity so much is because it is in my favorite scene from the Horatio Hornblower series:

Horation Hornblowerstart at 5 minutes, 30 seconds

We use a word, not sure how to spell or pronounce kafaffle, kerflaffle used in the Anne of Green Gables movie by Marilla. My dd and I know what we mean anyway. Wish I could remember the context.

Anyone know the correct spelling?

For a long time I have loved SERENDIPITY, or SERENDIPITOUS. It's sound matches it's meaning so serendipitously.

Peckish. As in you're needing a snack and say, "I'm feeling a bit peckish." Its so much more refined than, "I'm hungry."
