In our home we have written many book narrations, reports, reviews, but I suppose I don't know the actual rules of a good book report. My Senior is writing a book report on The Virginian that will be turned in to MODG. Is it ok to give away the ending in a report?
She is wondering if she should summarize the entire book or just focus on some main points and not give away the ending???
What is the general rule for book reports?

I think it's fine to "give away the ending" in a book report. The audience here would normally be someone who has read the book, in order to grade the report, right? That's different than a book review, in which you would not want to reveal the ending.

A book report which simply summarizes the events is OK, but rather boring and probably more suited for younger kids than a senior. At this age I think they can expound more on their opinion of the book's plot, characters, writing style, etc. as well as focusing on certain themes in the book and interpreting them.

Now, I'm not a professional writer, nor anything close! just recalling the types of reports I had to write in high school.

Thanks you for your reply Karen T. I will pass along your info to my senior! She has already written her report. Maybe I should pass it along to you for your opinion on it as I always have a hard time putting a letter grade to things we have to turn in to MODG.
