Our new little one has some weak sucking issues. He is 5 days old and can latch on but because of spending time under the bili lights, and receiving supplements of my own milk, but with a bottle and nipple, he has let his sucking go weak.

This now is resulting in less wet and dirty diapers.

Has anyone ever had to correct to a baby's weak suck? I have seen something called a supplemental nursing system, but what I have read, not only does it take time for them to figure it out using this, but then you have to wean them off it too...so I'm not sure that is the route I want to go in.

I'm praying for a solution!!!!

Has your baby been checked for tongue tie? I ask because a friend's baby seemed to develop a weak suck and it was found that he had tongue tie. She did use a supplemental nursing system before she figured out was wrong and it was time consuming, but worth it (in her opinion).
