My 25 y.o., Andrew, works driving a mobile hematology lab, and is gone for three weeks and then home for two. He was in the early part of an "away" stage when his boss, who is a real romantic, I guess, told him that he'd pay for Andrew to fly home to Kansas for Valentine's weekend if he would propose to Jesse (that's how she spells it!). The week before Andrew left on that trip he went to their favorite hiking place and carved a proposal into a tree. He took a photo as a precaution in case anything happened to the tree! Well, he was supposed to get back early Saturday but didn't get in til late that evening due to flight delays. On Sunday afternoon he took Jesse out to her favorite restaurant and then drove to their "spot." He proposed and gave her a beautiful ring. (Note that it was FREEZING and windy and snowing sideways! What a memory!) We're thrilled that she said "yes" as we all just adore her and pretty much have since the first time he brought her home to dinner two and a half years ago.
What's funny is that he had to fly back out on Monday morning early. On Monday night Jesse got an email from him to please call Andrew's boss first thing in the morning, that it was urgent. She called before she left for work and got the third degree. Seems that the boss was checking that Andrew had really proposed and that she'd accepted, otherwise he was going to dock Andrew for the plane ticket!!
Jesse is such a lovely young woman. She is a journalist and a good Kansas girl who is thoroughly content with writing for a small town paper in eastern KS. We love to discuss books and go bookstore hopping together. We are all blessed. They're thinking about an October wedding, maybe the feast of the Guardian Angels. Would you pray for them?
Mary Alice in Kansas, really looking forward to being a mother in law
