I know a lot of us know and love Dick Blick for art supplies. Some of the old threads here tipped me off that I can buy water color paper there for a very reasonable cost- much better than my local MIcheal's, even with a coupon.
So I'm wondering... what other favorites does everyone have from DB?
Last fall I bough a set of the precut gingerbread men shapes... my dc have had a ball with those.

an old post of mine with a list of supplies I got at DB.
online shopping works well for me, because i actually am able to limit my buying better. when we lived in st. louis and had a dick blick's nearby it was SO HARD to go in there and stick to what was on my list. i wanted to buy everything!
i especially kneaded erasers and tortillions and charcoal sticks.

** paper and sketch books
** LOVE the artist board

Newsprint by the ream! (If your children like newsprint, this is an affordable way to get it for them.)
I used to take a folder filled with newsprint and a container of colored pencils to dinner with us when we lived in Italy. It was the perfect way for my children to politely endure the multi-hour food fests.

oh!!! my pencil sharpener
It's really really wonderful.. all metal construction.. price you can't get anywhere else for all metal construction and it's held up to my household for years now. Nothing else has.. little hand held ones.. the smaller kids fight with and they get lost and you can end up with shaving all over. This one hangs on the wall in the garage (just in case the case does get opened by a small child ) and most of the kids can use it.. and come away with properly sharpened pencils.. it can sharpen even the cheapie decorated pencils reasonably well. The only thing that slows it down is crayons.. and then you just use a pencil and scrape the wax out of the ridges.. doesn't take all that long.. and it's good to go again.

Oh, my, we have purchased tons and tons of stuff from Dick Blick.
All our Prismacolor colored pencils, markers (love these!), and drawing pencils.
Golden Fluid acrylics (worth every penny) and various Golden acrylic gels, gessos, pastes and media.
Paint brushes by the bunches.
My current favorite Neocolor II water soluble pastel crayons.
Scratch boards and tools of all sorts.
All kinds of papers-watercolor, hand-made,patterned, origami, metallic, etc.
Big bottles of tempera paint for the littles to go wild with.
Soft pastels.
Pan pastels.
Pastel board
Canvases
modeling wax
Blick Mix paper mache mix.
Wire for sculpture armatures
Crayola model magic (big tubs)
Oh, boy, I could go on and on...

thanks everyone-
It has been fun peeking into the art list of others...
Sometimes when I search on DB I get overwhelmed with all the choices, so a "best of Dick Blick" is very helpful. I would have never found the little gingerbread cut-outs if Theresa hadn't mentioned them last year.

I'm bumping this because I'm totally being a mouse to a cookie!
First, Jen starts a topic on an essay course on Chesterton. From there, I wandered back to Amazon and remembered that I want an e-reader and, well if I'm going to by the Chesterton book I might just want to put that money toward a Kindle. From there I see that having brown paper could be handy for this study and Jen was kind enough to link to Dick Blick. So while I'm there I think..."Oh ya, my crafty friends go on and on about Dick Blick so why don't I go ahead and get some good stuff too." So here I am, looking and eager to place...
My first Dick Blick order
Is it unfair to ask you to help narrow it down...to products that will please a craft-impaired mom and 3 boys? Thanks!
Love,

Hi mouse. Cookie here. (pretend the "for Santa" sign says -- FOR ANGIE.)
Since I have already prompted a Kindle order, and have you thinking about brown Kraft paper and white chalk ( )...I thought maybe I'd just go ahead and continue offering my input!
Could I suggest, for a first order, anything in the Prang line? I have always said how much I like this brand because it is inexpensive and good quality. Our favorite go-to-time-after-time Prang items:
** metallic markers
** chalk
** color pencils - set of 48
** watercolor paints
** modeling clay
** brush pens
Beyond Prang:
** Spend some time looking through the color pencils. Another good set of color pencils can be nice to have, though not necessary.
** A sketch pencil set can be neat
** A decent set of oil pastels and some black paper and kraft paper.
** A few basic drawing/sketching pads. Our preference are the Canson sketch pads. We like them because they don't have a highly textured (bumpy) page surface, have a heavy cardboard back, and have a top spiral rather than a side spiral. And, my kids actually prefer the small sketch books to the large ones - for that reason I really like the Strathmore Sketch pads because of the wide range of small sketch pads (we like the 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 size).
** I really love the VERY inexpensive ream of 500 newsprint - and the kids use it for EVERYTHING.
** Do the boys enjoy painting?? Or do you know for certain that painting is NEVER going to happen in your home?? I don't want to recommend basic watercolor tools if painting is definitely out, but I do have some ideas.

yep all Jen's fault. I didn't place an order but I did pick up some crayola chalk while I was out this evening.

Their construction paper is the best I've ever used - vibrant, sturdy, doesn't fade, and inexpensive!
