I make almost all of our bread. Everyone likes it but dh would like it to be sliced thinner for sandwhiches. I let it cool completely and slice it with a bread knife but it is never "store bread" thin.
Anyone have any suggestions?????

Thanks.
Wendi

Wendi,
I had a hard time slicing our bread uniformly or thinly until I received this Victorinox Forschner serrated bread knife as a Christmas gift (I was using another very cheap bread knife before I received this, and was amazed at the difference it made). It received a very good review in Cooks Illustrated magazine. I am able to cut very thin slices with greater precision with this knife. It is EXTREMELY sharp. It has been a very useful tool in our breadmaking, so I thought I'd mention it especially since you're looking to make sandwich thin slices. I can actually cut our bread thinner than sandwich thin with this knife IF the bread is cool. It does take some practice to get a uniformly sliced piece of bread, especially if you slice it thinner.

I agree with Jen. The knife makes all of the difference. I have the Pampered Chef bread knife and would not trade it for the world.

I love our RADA bread knife, a gift from dd and sil, but for really thin, uniform slices an electric knife does wonders!

Wendy, I have a WestBend bread slicer guide to get my bread in even slices. Maybe that will help?

I don't know what it's called or what brand it is (I picked it up at Goodwill), but I have something that sounds like D. Maria suggests - it makes all the differnce too! Not perfect though and I think that might be a knife issue which I'll have to look into.

I was not familiar with the bread slicer guide - I just googled it and wow - how simple is that. I think I will look for one of those. I am also checking out the knives - I think mine my just need a good sharpening as it is a good quality knife but we shall see.
Thanks so much ladies!!
