Does anyone use this program? It's available at CHC. I comes with a CD and 8 level for grades 1-8. Would love to have a few reviews before purchasing this program.
Thanks!

I'm curious too - debating putting it on our buy list.

I've reviewed somewhere before - either here or on a couple of yahoo groups... I'll see if I can pull it up and post it before the boards close; otherwise I'll get it on Monday :)
I do have the entire set and have used it with a few children; currently using the first and 4th levels.

Here is a thread with CatholicMommy's review.
I myself watch very closely for reviews on this program as well, Rosesinsummer, because I've been curious/interested for some time, and this is the only one I know of here.
Let us know if you'd like other ideas to consider if you're looking for an art *program*. We can definitely make recommendations for you to consider there!

I have a question.... how long does one level "last"? I saw that each level has six programs; does that stretch out over a year's time?
Also- how long would a typical art lesson take on a particular day?
Right now we use Artistic Pursuits, and the kids love it. Is this art program something I could use intermittently for the visuals (I like the idea of seeing the art on a screen... way better than the stuff I print off myself!

In backwards order to your questions:
If you are using Artistic Pursuits (which we don't use, but I would LOVE to!), this would be a great supplement - mix them together in whatever combination you want. CHA is historical period based and I like the idea of following the cycle, but it's not "necessary" - while the skills build from one year to the next, there's not quite so much building from one lesson to the next (to a *tiny* extent there is - more in use of the materials than anything).
Each session takes about half an hour if all the supplies are ready; 45 minutes if not Though honestly, sometimes my son in particular finishes sooner and then goes on to extra art work on the side, which is fine with me :) Or he'll thumb through related books that I pull out based on that topic.
Each "lesson" is broken into 3 sessions and several lessons offer additional work that could be added for additional sessions. Sometimes the sessions must be separated in time (need to dry one portion before doing the next step); sometimes they can be done fairly consecutively if your family is one that likes to devote a whole day to art and such activities. In the school environment in which the DVDs were created, art was a once a week class, so 18 classes are covered officially, with the optional work filling in the other weeks.
Bible verses and poetry are included for the children to read/hear and perhaps utilize in their artwork as they like.
One thing too, is that I prefer to play the DVDs the first time on the tv, but then switch to the laptop for viewing still images (in the 2nd and 3rd sessions) - I can't get the paused images on my tv to be without lines!

Thank you- this is all very helpful info. It sound like overall a very good program. I would like to have all the images all in one place instead of hunting all over the internet for cave paintings while the kids are waiting, you know?

Thank you! I may give this program a try. Now to debate buying one year, or get the nice discount buying the whole program......

I am confused. Do you mean that you need to do this for Artistic Pursuits? I was planning on buying it but not if this is true. I also like to have everything in one place but honestly I dont like that one place to be on the TV or the computer. hmmmm

Artistic Pursuits does provide examples of the art work. I just like to supplement. But I often don't supplement with anything, and there is plenty there for the kids to learn and enjoy. This is our third year with AP, and my kids like it better all the time.
