Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know StartWRite softward has been discussed here and I have a question for those that use it...
Can I use it for a child's copywork? From what I've seen, I know it would work for teaching handwriting and for the copying of sentences, but what about for an older child? My ds is in 3rd grade and just learning to write in cursive. I would like to type, using StartWrite if possible, the copywork selections from ILL or other books we might use, in cursive for him to copy. Is that possible, even though the selections are at times lengthy paragraphs?

It's possible. I don't do more than a paragraph, or prayer, at a time, but you can do more.

Absolutely, Becky! This is how I use StartWrite!

I type in my older son's copywork in cursive and print. There is a limit on page length. Obviously the size of the font you choose will affect how much you put on a page. I keep thinking there must be a way to work around this, but haven't found it yet. So, I just create and save different files - so I have file 1: Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening - stanza 1 - 2...and file 2: Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening - stanza 3 - 4. Two stanzas fit on a page for me. I keep all my files stored in a folder on my desktop so that they're easy to organize and sort and get to if I need to print again.

Becky,

We just bought this and that is exactly how I am using it!

I just got it two days ago thanks to a thread by Marilyn about Handwriting and I have been typing ever since! The kids LOVE it!

I can't figure out how to cut and paste selections though. But I just bought it and have to learn to work it

Okay! Thanks everyone. It's definitely on my list for next year, if I can wait that long. My ds's use HWOT and I know Startwrite probably doesn't have that particular font, but is there one that might be similar. This might be a good way to make the transition. HWOT has really helped my son but I notice he doesn't do well on regular lined paper. I'm feeling like I need to get him used to regular paper since he'll be in 4th grade.

I use it even for copywork for all from PK to High School.

You can copy and paste in too which saves a ton of time. eg for Catechism copywork or Saints quotes or poetry - I find it online - copy and paste and voilą - pages of copywork in a jiffy.

The page limit irritates me sometimes - but I have learned to preview and start a new page.

Becky - it does have HWOT and HWOT Cursive - my twin ds used to use these before we moved towards Simple Cursive.

Oh Wow! For some reason I thought it didn't have HWOT which has kept me from ordering it sooner! That's good to know. Thanks so much!
