Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I picked up several of them at used book sales, finally read one about Samuel Slater and loved it! They are all historical fiction great for the upper elementary, early middle school level. According his LibraryThing page he has over 25 books. Has anyone else used them, and what do you think of them?

Thanks,
Kris

Haven't heard of them, but that LibraryThing site sounds very very interesting!

I joined and will look at it more later - do you use the site?

I am notekris and AtHomeScience on LibraryThing and I find it very helpful. When I am lesson planning, I pick a topic and then use my tags on LibraryThing to see what books I have related to that.

I pick up so many cheap and interesting books at library book sales that LibraryThing helps me keep track of them all. And sometimes I find a hidden gem that I've not seen on the usual homeschool lists, like F. N. Monjo. Interesting thing is that it's usually books from the 1960s or early 1970s!

Blessings,
Kris

That is an interesting observation, Kris. I wonder if that is because those decades don't get considered in a nostaligic classic way like the 30's, 40's and 50's and aren't as familiar as the couple most recent decades....

I'm not familiar with Monjo - but you've piqued my interest. Your recommendations alwasy turn out to be good choices for us. Thanks.

Kris,

Just curious, do you have two LT accounts? why do you find that helpful? I have a LT account but haven't used it much yet. IT seems such a great concept, I just find it difficult to find the time to log in books.

You absolutely do not need 2 LT accounts! I have a separate account just for my science stuff because it all ties into my blog, Yahoo group, etc., and I have more science books than any other single subject.

It is a pain to get the stuff cataloged at first. I suggest logging a few books each night. Teach kids to log (fairly simple) and have them do some. My friends and I had "logging nights" when we first started in order to get the bulk of our books in.

Once your library is logged, though, it is very useful. I am generous with my tags, tagging a book with all possible uses. For example, a biography about Galileo can be tagged science, biography, Renaissance, Catholic...you get the idea. When I am lesson planning I use LT to find out what I have in my own library before I look to other recommendations, so it has really helped me get good use of my library. I look at my friend's lists to see what they are looking for, or if they have something I'm looking for to borrow.

HTH!
