We have been particularly enjoying this audio version of Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates. The narrator is excellent and the story is, of course, a classic. It has a very high vocabulary level, but even my just 7 yr. old is enjoying it, although I am sure he doesn't understand all of the words. However, this is one great way to build vocabulary! I noticed it received a lower rating because the reviewer didn't like all the "travelogue" details about Holland that are part of the unabridged version of the story. Tons of details on Dutch history, art, music, geography, culture, and life are given in the story. We,unlike the reviewer above, are loving it and it's perfect for long car rides. The entire set plays over 10 hours!
We found ours at the local library. It is recommended for 11 and up, but we have a 14, two 8's and a 7 listening here (plus Mom, of course!).

I just thought I'd add here.. you can get this on librivox.. it's public domain books read by volunteers. So the quality of the reading may vary.
But.. they have Hans Brinker or the Silver Skates available.

We really like this version, too. We check all of our audio books out from the library and listen to them as we drive around.
After checking out and reading the Hans Brinker picture book, one of my sons commented, "That book has nice pictures, but it leaves out too much of the story. I prefer the one we listened to in the van." He had heard the story when he was 7.
