We've discovered that we really like baked sweet potatoes. I haven't quite discovered, though, just the thing that goes nicely with them. Everything we've had is okay, but just not *the* thing.
What do you like with baked sweet potatoes?

I agree with Natalia that pork goes really well with sweet potatoes!

We are vegetarian so perhaps this isn't what you are looking for, but I like them with black eyed peas and greens (super yum, and if you want you could throw some pork in there) along with cornbread.

Oops! I did forget to mention that we abstain from meat all the time, too.
The suggestions sound great, though!

A local natural (with lots of vegetarian options) cafe serves black bean and sweet potato burritos. A black bean sauce or soup might be nice on top of or alongside sweet potatoes!

I think the reason ham is so good with them is that saltiness it has.. so that might be something to consider.. that whole sweet/salty combo. So a side dish whether it's beans or whatever that would have that salt flavor to balance the sweet of the potatoes.

Well, I'd get a hold of Mary Chris and her fresh ham slices and have a feast!

Just posting now, but I saw this question earlier when my lunch was in the oven. And guess what I had for lunch? A baked sweet potato! Before baking, I'd rolled it in olive oil and sea salt. When it came out of the oven, I split it open length-wise and mixed it up with 1tsp. of butter and 2 tsp. of honey. Oh.my.goodness! I really enjoyed lunch today!
Peace,
Nancy

Black beans seems to be a popular idea. The last time we had them we had black beans, too. funny. they seem to just naturally go together.

Baked sweet potatoes are fabulous mashed and spread on tostadas with taco fixins. Also good in burritoes. Really! I kid you not!.
