Hi Ladies!!
My 8 yr old dd is having a tough time with math this year. We are desperately waiting the release of teaching textbooks 3 (my oldest uses teaching textbooks 5 - we LOVE it!). In the meantime we have been using Seton's Math for Young Catholics - boring!! Does anyone have any suggestions for something I can use that is more exciting and will help her learn without getting so frustrated!! I need to find something easy to use and inexpensive (we will be spending the money on TT3).Maybe some living books? I appreciate any help - she's getting discouraged with school in general only because of math Thank you!!

Perhaps you could take a little math break? TT3 doesn't come out till April (I think we're going to try it, too), but... have you perused the table of contents? One thing I've noticed about it is that several 2nd grade math concepts are worked with again during the first part of TT3. She may already know "enough" that you can just ease up on math a bit for the time being, and then let TT take over.
This may totally not be your style, but.... for math, we play games. Lots and lots of games. Board games, card games, games from Mathwire. In fact, Mathwire is extremely helpful. You could find a list of 2nd grade math requirements (I use Ruth Beechick's, but you could use lists put out my your state's school superintendent website), and then use Mathwire to look things up and play games games games.
For example, if she needs to work on place value, you could go to Mathwire and look under "p" -- there will be printable activities/games for learning place value-- same thing for all the other math concepts.
I really think that pretty much every math concept at this level can be taught through games, and that seems to take the pressure off.
Hugs!

math games from RightStart would be helpful. I think to buy the book and all the card games it's only around $30.
Right Start Math Games
I can get all the family to play these...5, 7 and 10 together and they really don't realize we are doing our school work!
