I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I'm sure a moderator can help move it if it should be somewhere else!

My f-i-l will be ordained a deacon in a few months. We have already purchased a stole as a gift from the grandchildren that he can use for school masses or baptisms. Any other gift ideas? We're not sure what else might be an appropriate or useful gift since many of the things he will need are already available at the parish.

I thought that surely someone else here has had to buy a gift for a newly ordained deacon before and could help!

One gift we bought for a newly ordained priest that could work well for a deacon could be a holy water sprinkler. It is compact and comes with a little case. This way they would have holy water all ready to go during blessings.

Oh, here is one from St. Patrick's Guild that has a small pix and sprinkler all in a nice case!

I know our parish (and several we've belonged to in other states) has a chronic pyx shortage. (We just found several in a basket full of altar server gift cards...???) Having a personal pyx might be a really nice thing.
