Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm working on an embroidery project for my son and I was wondering if there are any symbols used for prophets and priests. The symbol needs to translate easily for embroidery or felt. I hope this question makes sense.

Thank You in advance,

Elizabeth

Elizabeth I would like clarification. Are you looking for symbols of the priests and prophets in Old Testament/Scripture? Or a symbol used for current priesthood? thanks.

I'm making a Baptism Day project that reflects the fact that we inherited the titles of priest, prophet and king on that day. So, I'm thinking it can be either of the two kinds of symbols you mentioned, it just needs to translate easily to wool felt (I'm thinking of the cutting involved) and/or embroidery (uncomplicated stitching). I'm a newbie at crafting and sewing so the symbols need to be easy enough for me to create.

Thank You!

I think you can make it your own.
A prophet is someone who hears God's voice first and then shares it with others. I first think of Isaiah...and either scrolls or a burning coal with which his tongue was made to speak...even though he thought himself unworthy.

Priest would be easily a stole maybe purple.
And king...a crown of course.   I suspect you could even over lay these three if you were short on space.

I was looking up prophets in symbols books, and the common symbol is a scroll.

All the different levels of clergy - priest (& monsignor), bishop, cardinal pope - have a specific symbol that is part of any coat of arms they would also have. It is a hat with tassels. There are differences in color and number of tassels based on the level of priesthood. The symbol that a priest would use on a coat of arms is this one.

EDITED: and I meant to add that this symbol would lend itself well to embroidery.

And uploading the image here directly.
