DD has an ear infection in her fairly new pierced ear. She got her ears pierced 7 weeks ago. We used the product provided by the place that pierced her ears just as we were instructed - 3 x/day for the 1st 6 weeks.
Any suggestions on how to heal the ear and get rid of the infection (product mentioned above is now gone)?
TIA!

When I got my ears done ages ago.. I was just told to use rubbing alcohol on it.. if you fill the cap (or simliar size) you can dip the ear in and then move the earring around without taking the earring out.
But I would think any antibiotic cream rubbed into it (you'll want to get it inside the hole) would do the trick

I've done both of what Jodie says. I would soak a little in alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, and then take Neosporin or some other antibiotic cream around the hole. Make sure she is wearing the original earrings to keep the hole open.
If she can remove the earrings, then I suggest taking the ear post and dip it liberally into the cream, so that it enters the hole.
I found for myself that I would react to metals other than 14K gold or platinum. Sterling silver does less of a reaction, but all other metals are irritants for me. You might need to look at this if she keeps getting infected ears.
I've done work arounds over the years for this.
One, if your ears feel itchy or getting red with the earrings you are using, go back to the first studs, put antibiotic cream and wear a few days.
If there is a pair of earrings that gets me a little reaction, I can wear them a short while if I dip the posts into the cream.

As a former "Ear Piercing Professional) aka Claire's employee and wearer of 11 ear piercings, I would recommend staying away from rubbing alcohol . It can really irritate a sore ear. You can usually purchase the ear cleaning solution anywhere ears get pierced, including Walmart. It's just benzylchonium chloride, but can be difficult to track down in other settings.
My dd's ears took many more weeks to heal than what's 'standard' so I would really just keep with the cleanings, but 2x a day is probably fine.

My dd's ear got infected, too. It seemed to take forever for them to "be normal"--almost a year before she could comfortably take them out and put them in. At one point, she did get a 5day antibiotic and it was fine after that. Good to know about the alcohol. I'll have to tell my dd she was right! She kept telling me alcohol wasn't good enough, that it HAD to be the cleaner.

I second the 14K gold posts too. Kohls frequently will have a great sale price. I'm sensitive to cheap earrings too and my ears have been pierced for 25 years.
