Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does someone have any fabulous website/book suggestions for arts/crafts for/with a 3 and 1 yo?

Also, when do you *prepare* or *set up* for craft/art projects to be done. I always feel behind the 8 ball. DD (3 yo) loves to do *projects* and I know she would enjoy doing some more often than we currently do.

TIA for any (and all) suggestions.

The Crafty Crow
has a huge index of crafts for all ages/interests. It is fun to look through- she takes her ideas from blogs all over the web. Some members here (Lapaz Farm for one) have been featured on it. It's very inspiring.

Your children are really young and really at that age it is about the process and not the "product" so specific craft projects aren't necessarily age-appropriate.

There are a couple very good books on the art process for young children. Several are by Mary Ann Kohl. She is excellent and definitely emphasizes process rather than product.

First Art: Art Experiences for Toddlers and Twos
Scribble Art (also formerly know as Scribble Cookies)
Primary Art: It's the Process not the Product

She also has a series for preschool art, subtitled "It's the Process not the Product" which I have not seen but imagine are as great as her other books.

Another very good book is Bev Bos' Don't Move the Muffin Tins. It's written for early-childhood educators setting up an experiencial art center in their school setting, but is easily adaptable to general home use.

For process oriented are for young children is more about having some specific types of materials available to experiment with. Those could be kept in a variety of work boxes by material or art type, so they would be readily available to pull out as desired.

I was going to suggest the MaryAnn Kohl books for ideas, but I see MaryM has already done that. :) I also look for ideas on Crafty Crows

Mine are 4 and 2 1/2 so we do a lot of collages. It takes hardly any time to set up and they can pretty much go at it however they'd like. My 4 year old can cut pieces with scissors if he wants to, otherwise I cut pieces for them. They love that they can use a glue stick. :) If you want the collages to have a theme you can cut different shapes for them to have a circle collage or triangle collage, or you can stick with just one color.

As far as set up, if I don't plan a craft ahead of time they won't happen. A lot of the time I get things together the night before so if my boys decide they'd like a project the next morning I'm ready. Then all I have to do is put everything on the table and go. If we don't use it it's ready for whenever we want to use it.
