So now that it is almost a week after Christmas, what were your hits and misses this year...gifts given or received?
My boys are still in love with their vacuum. They wanted a Roomba LOL. We got a small, bagless, vacuum with a telescoping handle.
The I Spy Eagle Eye Jr while fun for a day isn't so much now. They have the boards memorized already and know where all the clues are.
Look forward to hearing yours,
Michelle

Big hit didn't see coming: Uno Flash from my mother for dh, we all love to play it
bomb we didn't see coming: a toy vacuum, my 18moold loves the real vacuum, follows it, wants to sit in front of it...I got her a toy one that looks closest to ours and to real...she won't have anything to do with it, but still loves the real!

Hit - Cozy Coupe for the 17 mo old.. he loves to ride in it and the older ones love to give him rides win/win
Hit - Fisher Price Little People, given to the two youngest but every child in the house has been caught playing at some time or other
Pretty much everything was good.. we have a few things that just can't be used much at the moment.. razor scooters just don't run that well through several inches of snow

We tend to intercept many of the misses (like dollar store packaged Santa cookies from the ladies at Adoration)received.
Our boys did get a bunch of Evangelical easy reader picture books from Pop-pop and Grandma Sara that I'm not crazy about. I'm not even sure where they are or if they've been looked at. I think that they think that books are all good, yk?
The hit has been the K'nex from Pop-pop. I think they reminded him of his Erector set growing up. They have been played with constantly!
Also, my brother gave the boys Make Way for Ducklings with the cd. HUGE hit. We've gotten the book from the library repeatedly, and I knew we liked it, but they have listened to the cd several times a day, lol.

We had quite a few MEGA hits in our house
1. Ticket to ride: We've played every day since we opened it. The first few times we played teams but now my DD(9) is playing by herself and loves it.
2. King of the Golden City: On this post we discussed what my Mom would get the kids, well we ended up placing a large order at Catholic Child and bought this story on Audio CD. WOW!!!! That's all I can say WOW! The kids listened to it the whole time we were running errands and sitting waiting for Dad yesterday and when we were done with the errands, they did not want to get out of the car! We listened to it today again and my daughters got into a very lengthy discussion about the "stained robes"
3. Mosaics: The kids got these boxes to decorate and LOVED them! Went quick but oh such concentration!
Okay now the bomb:
Hannah Montana Twister; My poor kids:( They wanted Twister so bad and this is just pathetic!

Hit: Playmobile Pyramid.
My dc are really taken with this- all the secret passages and Egyptian pieces and figures. We have never really tried Playmobile before, but a sale at Thanksgiving combined with a gift card that needed to be used and free shipping made this a go. I waffled on this for so long-even thought of returning it to the store because I wasn't sure they'd like it- but I think it has lasting power here.
HIt: the corn-filled heating pads we made to give as gifts. We've had several requests for more
Big HIt: Our new CCC dvds. My ds has watched Francis Xavier every day since Christmas
MIss: I'll just call these "one hour wonders" ... given by loving family members but just not a hit for us after the initial "gee whiz" factor:
Light Bright
Remote control snake
high school musical "room to go" set

SeaStar I am so jealous. We ordered the pyramid on Black Friday from Toys R Us online. After 2 delays they sent us a castle instead, and by that time everyone was sold out of the pyramid. I felt so bad as it was to only thing my son asked for We got him the Nile boat and Sphinx, which are cool, but not pyramid cool

Wow- I didn't know the pyramid was such a hot item. I bought it the weekend before Thanksgiving when TRU had a big sale plus free shipping.
My dh, though, surveying all the parts and pieces, said his "word" for next Christmas was "peppermint stick" and "tin cup".

I was at the Peppermint Stick and Tin Cup comment, because that made an impression on my girls when we read Little House!
Hit: clearance picture book on chickens at Barnes and Noble, and Playmobil Horse Stable set up (Costco)
Miss: Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang DVD (kids hate it, hubby and I LOVE it).

Hit No Stress Chess. My 8 year old LOVES it and learned all the chess piece moves in a day. I like it because it evens the playing field for us non-chess people. Another hit for my 11 year old dd was Klutz Paper Fashions
Miss- apparently everything I gave to my 16 year old son. Oh what a restless heart he has!

Hey Sharon -
This is exactly the reason my teens got visa gift cards. My 18yo daughter acted all hurt about it , and I almost felt bad...........
until I checked around a little bit and found out that many of my friends with teens did the same thing - adding the comment that you just can't win when you try to pick their gift.
My Elizabeth's Godmother took her 18yo son shopping, made him pick out his own gift, and then took them home and wrapped them up and ordered him to act appropriately Christmas morning.

carcasonne and risk are almost in constant play.
my insulated travel coffee mugs are in constantly use.
Dh loves his Cubs stay frozen pilzners.
footscooties for me. can't have enough of those things imo.
oldest loves his MP3 player, I might never see him without plugs in his ears again.
K'nex as always is a hit
Misses: a picnic tote for me. I thought it was a purse (an equal miss) so obviously it will not hold enough food for a family of 11! LOL
