My kids have a seriously BAD reaction to red dye. But they want to make Christmas cookies and such, and they are getting tired of only using white and green. We've pretty much run that into the ground.
Does anyone have a natural non-dye-ish way to make red for cookie decorations? Or baking?
(This is my first time on this part of the board! I didn't even see it until now! Ooooh, the inspiration for yummy eats is awesome! )

What about using dried cranberries or cherries as decor? At least your green wreaths and trees can have red ornaments.

Strawberry juice will make a pale red. Some of the whole food stores sell a natural food coloring. My son has been red dye free for almost 7 years. Just be creative with other colors Annie

I haven't tried these from India Tree but have them on my radar to purchase sometime this year. I think all of their products are natural.

we use beet juice concentrate from Whole Foods for red dye. It makes a nice deep burgandy color.

Raspberry puree? It's more "magenta" than red though.

Could you just add some red sprinkles or would that still be too much dye? That seemed to be the "easiest" out to get some red on the cookies.

Strawberry jammies are a fun cookie to make that will give you some red without dye. Tasty too.

Mmm, thank you all for the good (and yummy) advice. It's not too late ... and these tips will help with the St. Valentine treats, too. :)
Thanks so much, ya'll!
