Hi Moms~
A dear friend was so kind to bring me an uncooked lasagna to heat in my oven for dinner. Given our miscarriage at the beginning of the month, this is a huge help.
Though I love her dearly, I am not quite sure about her instructions for re-heating. Can you help?
She made the lasagna with uncooked (hard) lasagna noodles...layered it all...and told me to add 1/2 c. water to the pan, cover with foil, and heat on 350 for about an hour?
I wonder if this will fully cook the noodles?
Whenever my family made lasagna, we always pre-boiled them...
Any advice? Need to have this for dinner tonight.

Well, I always make it with uncooked noodles. (And I don't buy the expensive no-boil ones either.) I never add extra water. In my experience, the sauce and cheeses add enough liquid to cook the noodles. The time and temp. you mention sound about right to me, but I'd be inclined to want to leave a bit of wiggle room on the end in case it takes a bit longer to cook.

I never add water either, and I always make mine with uncooked noodles. Just make sure to cover tightly with foil. I usually cook it for about 50 minutes to an hour covered, and then I take off the foil and bake it for another 10-15 minutes to toast up the cheese a little.

I never add water either.. and yes it will cook the noodles just fine.. I would consider the water only depending on if there didn't seem to be a large amount of sauce.
To test for doneness just poke through the layers with a fork.. when the noodles are cooked you can do that easily.

Thank you all for your replies! This is very helpful.
Funny...in 6.5 years of marriage...I have never cooked a lasagna. Only my parents have ever made it for us...or my husband...but I, myself, have never done it.

I would never have made lasagna either if I had to boil the noodles first...it makes them so unwieldy
One of the nice things about lasagna is that it freezes beautifully, and it's a dish that's just about as easy to makes 3 at a time as 1.
This thread is reminding me that I have 2 big tubs of ricotta in my fridge waiting to be put in some lasagna!

If she told you to add extra water, I probably would or at least add extra sauce. It's possible that she is using a different recipe than the others who replied and if you don't add it, you may end up with brittle noodles.

I agree. I sometimes add water to dishes which have sat in a fridge for a while before baking as well. Seems to help them cook better.
