I did something similar for my CCD.
Our last meeting was the 3rd Sunday in Advent, so I made cinnamon rolls in a ring (for St. Lucia/advent wreath - a 2 for one deal!) iced, then I used colored sugar to decorate them purple 3/4 the way round, and pink the last 1/4. I have a small St. Lucia statue I took along and put in the middle of the ring.

My CCD class is about the same age - 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
all girls.
The girls loved it and we had fun.
