Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have been reading through the Story of the World vol 2 and I read ahead again last night. We will be at the chapter on Martin Luther and the Reformation in about a week and a half. After re-reading that chapter, I just can't read it to the kids. My children are in 1st and 2nd grades and I am wondering how do you present the Reformation to young childern. Do I even need to cover this at all. It seems like maybe I do need to mention it in some way. I just don't know how to handle this.

Michelle,
SOTW's coverage of Martin Luther makes my skin crawl. Yuck. I know exactly what you mean. It hasn't kept me from using SOTW, but by all means, skip/heavily edit that section, as well as the ones on "Good" Queen Bess, and don't feel a minute's guilt.

Check out the archives search mode using the word "Jackdaw". My little children were the ages of your during our "tryst" with Martin Luther, so the Jackdaw reading was way over their head. However, it helped ME clarify how to present the lad to dc, and gave some great ideas for projects that we did with the little ones. Most notably, the now famous Wanted Posters! Whew---we had fun with that. Though it is a pricey resource, I highly recommend it for dealing with MLS (Martin Luther Syndrome).
