Do you have a favorite icing recipe for decorating gingerbread men? Something that dries hard is what I'm looking for.

Also, what about a nice glaze for sugar cookie cutouts?

God Bless,

Stephanie

Royale Icing is the kind that dries clear and shiny.

3 egg whites
1 lb of powder sugar
1 tsp cream of tartar

Whip until it starts to peak

You can add food coloring to this

We have always used a powdered sugar icing for GB men- with vanilla, sugar and a liquid (either milk, water or oj)
We put the icing in ziplock bags and cut a tiny corner so it's easy for the kids to squeeze out- we've even colored it before. It does dry hard but watch out that you don't get it too loose for use- it will run down the sides of the cookie... if it's too loose, just add more sugar.

Thank you, LeeAnn and Jen. We made our gingerbread men today.

Does anyone know how to get the pretty glaze on cookies?

We use royale icing to glaze sugar cookies also. I just add a little milk to the icing to thin it a bit.

Or sweeten condensed milk and powder sugar will make a nice glaze.

I really like this icing with white chocolate:

Ingredients

   1. 2 sticks (1/2 pound) unsalted butter, softened
   2. 12 ounces white chocolate, melted and cooled slightly
   3. 1 cup confectioners' sugar (icing sugar)
   4. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Directions

   1. In a large bowl, using a handheld electric mixer, beat the butter at medium speed until creamy. Beat in the melted white chocolate. Add the confectioners' sugar and vanilla and beat at low speed, scraping the sides and bottom of the bowl, until light and fluffy.
