Lily is going in tomorrow for her second cleft palate repair. This is part of the surgery they were going to do six weeks ago, but she had a cold the week before, so they cancelled it. So, here we are, six weeks later, healthy the whole time and ready to get this done. I wonder if this is Our Lady's doing, so we could have this done on her Feast of the Immaculate Conception! They have split up the surgeries they were going to do in Oct, and now the cleft is first, followed in March by the biggie, the jaw distraction.
If I could be so bold as to ask you to pray specifically for a few things:
-No airway issues during surgery.....Lily's airway is tricky and bronchospasms a lot during surgery.....please pray we have a terrific anesthesiologist that manages Lily's airway well.
-Successful closure of her palate.
-Great pain control
-For my youngest son's anxiety to be well managed during this stressful time.....he is very nervous about all of this.
-For strength and perseverance for my husband and me.
-Safe travel....we are suppose to have really bad snow (I think I head "blizzard like conditions"...great) We have to travel three hours....back home, with a post-op kiddo.....I'm glad we have four wheel drive.
Thanks, Everyone! I'll try to update later tomorrow, I am sure her surgery is mid-morning....no definite time yet, when they call for pre-op instructions later today, they'll let me know the exact time, and I'll let you know as well.

I heard from 4 lads mom a few minutes ago. Surgery has been canceled and rescheduled for December 18. It seems that Lily's surgery was pushed back far enough that there were significant concerns about not having adequate anesthesiology support. The family is headed home right now (a 3 hour drive) to try to beat the blizzard. It was snowing as we were talking, but they hoped to get ahead of the storm, the brunt of which is supposed to set in by tomorrow morning. 4 lads mom will update again in the morning.
Join me in praying for their safe travel home, and continuing to pray for Lily and her surgery. May Our Lady continue to guide this surgery date and surgeon/anesthesiologist/medical support so that all takes place on the right day with a successful outcome for Lily!

Praying too...and I hear ya about the snow. Here where we are (across the river from Canada's capitol) we're supposed to get close to a foot by Wednesday...
Why can't we just have snow from December 23 to January 3? That would be find with me...honest

Praying! Is there any way they could let you stay if there is a blizzard? I remember back in ancient times when my now 10yo was a baby, she had RSV and they kept her an extra day because they were afraid if they sent her home I wouldn't be able to get her back in if she had a problem.

Hi Ladies,
Oh Boy......her surgery isn't until 2:30PM!!!! (EST) That is so, so late, I haven't seen any of my kids go that late in the day. So, I am hoping she will still be able to go home at a reasonable time Wednesday....the later in the day it gets, the more likely we'll have to stay there.
Amy, I bet they would keep us......she is such a fragile kid. I keep hearing "blizzard like conditions", oh I hope they are WRONG.

Right there with you, Sister!! It is so quaint, for about ten minutes....looking out my kitchen window with a cup of coffee....about as long as it takes to drink that cup, I'm good with the snow. I wouldn't get so freaked out by it, except when you have a medically intense baby and you live out in the tundra......it gets a little nerve wracking.

We continue to pray for Lily and your family. My 7 yo reminds me every night if I forget. I was reading him part of the post and his comment was - oh boy, snow, that would be tough for me if I had to have surgery and couldn't play in the snow. We will be going to a noon Mass for the Holy Day so Lily will be our special intention.
