my dh just got his test results from the doctor. he is 47 years old and his AST (SGOT) -- whatever that is -- is at 43 and the lab flagged it as "high".

any recommendations for bringing that number down, including supplements/food for optimal liver health?

Definitely milk thistle. There have even been double blind studies on its efficacy in improving liver function!
