Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh has been religiously studying these catalogs from Lee Valley. I put one in recycling after a couple of weeks, and he even went and got it out! It is a woodworking/gardening/science type catalog.

I can't figure out what he is so interested in... I even asked him up front if he was hinting about a Christmas gift (after looking through all the pages and finding no clues). He just turned red and said there was a lot of neat stuff in there.

What should I do- order something that I think he might like? Let it go since he didn't have anything particular in mind?

I'm stumped... he's not usually one to even glance at a catalog. At the same time, all the woodworking stuff in there all looks alike to me...

I don't have long this morning, Melinda...but I wanted to quickly come say that we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Lee Valley!!!! They offer more than the woodworking catalog, and their quality is wonderful! They typically seek sources that offer quality, often local, workmanship.

My dad, brother, husband...and now son all love these catalogs! And truthfully, so do I! They only send out one, maybe two catalogs a year, and it's the one catalog I keep all year because we go to it that often. There is always something (even if it's small) from Lee Valley under the tree! The magnets are great, as are the little tweezers, the finger scrubbing brushes, the wooden Christmas balls, the kitchen and garden offerings, and my brother is a master woodworker and orders A LOT from their woodworking catalog! Ok...so you get the idea... .

Now...quickly...to your specific question...my family has a tradition for Thanksgiving...we assign each person a different color highlighter pen and hand out the Lee Valley (as well as a few of our other favorite) catalogs. Could you hand your husband the catalog and just gently say, "I noticed that you really enjoyed this catalog. Why don't we keep it around for you to look through...and here's a red pen...could you circle a few things that really catch your eye?"...with your biggest sweetest smile? Works for me!

Oh, thank you-

That is a great idea. I'm glad to hear it's a good company. I like the looks of the Swiss Army credit card thingy (with all the tools packed so neatly), but dh already has a pocket knife from SA. That might be redundant. Also, the little artist pallet tools look intriguing.

Or maybe a gift card? Do they have those?

Looks like they have gift cards.

Well, around here, the men are of the opinion that one can never have too many knives.

Or tools in general...

You know, I didn't think there was a gardening catalog we didn't get, but I don't think we get this one...

Yes, this! Even my 5 and 3 year old boys will spend a TON of time pouring over the Lee Valley catalog! I think that while there might be gift ideas in there, mostly it is just fun to look at! I have catalogs like that for me.

How is it, that with no less than 6-8 catalogs arriving in the mail each day, I have never heard of this one???? I am going to request one because it sounds like a great fit for dh! Thanks!
