Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone recommend any books for children aged around 6 and above about Catholic scientists. I am particularly looking for good 'living' fiction.
I know there's a book out there about Louis Pasteur which I think will be easy enough to find-but does anyone have other ideas?
I would love some stories about the priest astonomers if such a thing exists.
All ideas welcome.

100 Years of Catholic Scientists may be a good start for you. It's not a living book but a collection of brief biographies of Catholic scientists. Maybe it will help you in your search for books about them if you had some names? I remember when Jane was writing this book, she is the go-to expert of the Galileo controversy.

A really nice picture book I would recommend is Gregor Mendel: The Friar Who Grew Peas. It is a pretty substantial one. The concepts that it is covering are deep yet it is also a lovely story.

Mary Daly (Hedge School) has the compilation of 1000 Years of Catholic Scientists mentioned - it has brief biographical summaries of 200 scientists.

I really don't think there is much that exists for that level - young children, except maybe for Copernicus and I'd be wary how it was presented unless I knew it was a Catholic friendly author.    Mary G. recommended this book from the Vatican Observatory: The Heavens Proclaim - about the history of the Vatican Observatory in celebration of the International Year of Astronomy. Not a living history book for children, more of a coffee table type book as she described it, but would have some of what you are looking for re. priest astronomers.

Of course Galileo was a Catholic scientist and there are lots of children's books written about him, but none that I have found which aren't on the anti-Catholic, church suppression of science side.

Thank you. I've got the Mendel book. It really is lovely. I hope the authors go on to produce more like it.
The 1000 yrs book looks just the thing-thanks for that.

I have seen "The Heavens Proclaim" but it is a bit old for my youngsters at this point. I have it on a wish list for later though.
Thank you
