I'm having my gallbladder taken out on Thursday. I saw the surgeon today after getting the results from an endoscopy on Monday. I don't have stones, but polyps and after lots of different tests this seems to be what everything is pointing to. I must admit I'm relieved given what some of the other things they were thinking it could be!

Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I can do to make the recovery/healing time go as smooth as possible? The doctor doesn't think it will be bad since I'm otherwise healthy, but I'm open to any and all suggestions to make sure I'm on my feet and back to normal as quickly as possible. My youngest is six so at least I don't have to worry about toddler/babies. But I need to fly to Denver on the 19th of November for Irish dance Western Regionals with my eleven year old, and I have a book due on December 1st. Thanks!

It's a fairly easy surgery to recover from. My dh stayed home with me basically over the weekend and then I was able to manage on my own with a 7 month old infant.

The big thing was just moving slowly for a while and wearing things that didn't put pressure on/near the incisions.. none big but all sensitive for a while. Loose dresses for the first bit and then soft waisted skirts worked best for me.

One thing I did do was use bromelain capsules (an enzyme in pineapple) as well as pineapple.. it seems to work better with some real pineapple as well as the capsules. Keeps swelling down, speeds healing.

Drink lots of liquids to get things moving after surgery. Stay off your feet as much as you can the first couple days to reduce swelling.

I had mine out on a Thursday and went back to work (full time, on my feet from 8-6 pm daily) on the following Monday. After suffering with GB pain for 5+ years before it was finally diagnosed (I had no stones, just abnormal contraction of the GB but still excruciatingly painful), the post-op discomfort was almost a relief!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their posts and prayers. It was my gallbladder causing problems and I feel like a new person! I'm finally getting caught up on things and visiting forums I haven't been to in a couple of months!

oh good to hear from you Melissa, glad things apparently went well. It is such a relief not to be on edge for that sort of pain to happen out of the blue at any moment.
