13yo dd, my mother, and I just watched Sense and Sensibility (1995) together. It was lovely and we reveled in the fact that no men were around to ruin our girl fun. Pass the tissues, please!
Do you have any recommendations for future viewing?
Love,

If you like period movies, and you liked S&S, you would love Emma (1996), with Gweneth Paltrow. Another great "chick flick," not a period movie, is Return to Me (2000) with David Duchovny and Minne Driver. Little Women (1994)with Winona Ryder is pretty good. Hmmmm...I think Because of Winn Dixie is out on DVD now, my daughter and I really enjoyed that.
My brain is in a bit of a post-partum fog, so that's all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm looking forward to reading more suggestions!

Hi Angie,
Most of my favorites have been mentioned -- big Jane Austen fan here! -- but I would add the very sweet and old fashioned Meet Me in St. Louis with Judy Garland.

I love Return to Me too. Just want to add the caveat that there is a scene where Jim Belushi say GD many times, and I believe there is a conversation about why Minnie Driver's character hasn't "given in" to David Duchovny.

What standards do you use when choosing movies for yourself? Is it different than those you use for choosing movies for your kids? Why?
