Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please say a pray that my dd finds the letter from the University where they agreed to give her credit for the first writing class. Seems there is now a new dean of the English dept. and they no longer show the full credit for her English . The credit that they had worked out before is gone, and there is no record of the credit given. So now they are saying she has to go back and take a first year freshman writing course because they cannot just grant credit retroactively - this despite the fact that she has made A+ on the second part of the writing course that is supposed to give credit for both. No matter what course she has taken, she has always done top of the class in any writing assignments.

I feel like we are back again asking the same thing over and over. Also, please pray that my dd will remember this and not forget to keep up with important documentation or proof (ie learn that you have to operate anticipating that someone is going to try and mess you up). Hopefully the same professor who went to bat for her before, is still at the University, and not annoyed at being bothered once again.

I'm detecting a great deal of exhaustion and discouragement again as she is struggling to be ready to audition for grad school.. The last thing she needs right now is to have to fight with the administration over a rinky dink Freshman English course.

Thanks guys!

Janet

Thanks for prayers guys - and please offer an occassional Ave when you think of it as the matter still remains undecided. She found one e-mail, but not the most important one. The decision has not yet been made and if this is denied, I'm not even sure if the course is offered next semester. It could really cause problems. Hopefully she will remember from this to keep all important papers in duplicate and triplicate hard copy in a safe, easily found place. Written proof would have saved her a lot of headaches.

prayers for sure!

Your dd has been one of my little pet prayer projects all of these years

I feel privileged to have prayed with you both! And, to have recieved your prayer support in return!

Blessings!!!

Oh dear, Janet...I'm late seeing this...but praying. How very frustrating for her! A potentially hard lesson to learn! I hope and pray something can be worked out!

Chari, thanks so much for asking. Did your dd get final positive results from her request?

I was trying to wait and reply when we had an official decision of some sort. So far nothing is official and we keep hearing different things.

First she got an e-mail that said it shouldn't be a big deal. Then she got word that it will probably be a denial since they cannot apply things retroactively . (Of course we are not asking them to apply anything retroactively - just to give her credit that was promised her from the start. Basically, she had official permission to take this course (and woe to us for accidently deleting those e-mails) and was told that it would give her the 6 hours of writing credit if she got an A in the course. She got the highest score in the class and an A+. The professor remembers her very fondly and with a great deal of respect.

Officially it is still with the dean. Her professor wrote a rather scathing e-mail suggesting that our daughter would likely be able to teach a lot of the professors a thing or two about writing. He did say that he saw the permission paper. I am not sure if the letter will help or not, but I know he'll be fighting for her. My husband and I are writing the dean with a sequence of events and copying whatever we do have and whatever names we do remember. They seem to have very hit or miss records of all this and most of the folks who were involved are no longer at the University. It may not bode well. At least if she does have to take the dumb writing course, it is offered next semester. It just means she'll have to take extra hours or delete a music elective, neither of which is ideal - but at least it won't keep her from graduating.

Please do keep your prayers up. I know this is oh so minor and I'm trying to remember this. But at the moment, I am sick, my sinuses and head are killing me and we are waiting for test results on another child that has us concerned and might be a bit serious. So, with patience not being my forte, I am not having a very good time of it. If permission is denied, I'll really have a hard time letting go. Right now I'm pretty angry all the way around - you know cholerics!
Her professor's letter (My daughter forwarded it to us) did make my day and I'm looking forward to meeting him in person sometime before she graduates. He is a professional writer.

Thanks Chari for all your concern and everyone for praying. (Anne continues to be in our prayers here).

Oh, boy. We are looking for a paper that could change a lot around here, too. It is such a big lesson to save papers, even after several years have passed.

Prayig your dd is able to locate information that will help her!!

Well, haven't heard a thing yet. DD is planning to call today to see when the decision might be reached. Please, please offer some Aves for her - and I'm asking Pier Giorgio Frassati to intercede. Hopefully she'll have a few minutes to do this calling - but she has a recital today, and some major work due tomorrow so things are really piling on - plus everyone wants to meet with the accompanyist now that the semester is past the midpoint. Oh, and she also has to fill out some other form to get paid for the work that she has been doing all semester, so that is another administrative hassle.

She has to register for classes tomorrow - and if she has to take this, then she will be taking a 20 hour semester while she tries to audition - to say nothing of the mega bucks those extra hours will cost. She is looking at all kinds of options if this is denied - and could use some prayers for discernment and a calm mind.

Right now my daughter is exhausted, frustrated and discouraged - pretty low. Plus she is tired of dealing with the football hysteria - and the drunks who are harrassing her on game day - and the noise while she tries to work and the lack of access to places she needs to be. I'm forever being woken up late at night and just know I need to pray - ask my guardian angel to protect her too and of course hers to assist. Thanks be to the protection of guardian angels - nothing bad has ever happened, but it is a continual stress for safety. She will not be spending any extra time at this Universisty - regardless.

Thanks guys - just heard from dd, she saw that they are issuing a waiver (we'll take that if it means she is done with English) but no official word, it is just showing up on her computer records, so based on past history, it may disappear just as suddenly. No one has bothered to e-mail or phone her with the decision, but we hope they answered my request to send official notification in writing to both addresses.

We are waiting for official notification of what is going on before we totally relax - but at least we are hopeful.

In the meantime they have shown her to not have sufficient GPA for her major - scared her out of her wits (she has a 4.0) until she saw that they are claiming that she has not declared a major (impossible as music majors are declared sophmore year when you are officially admitted to the program after gualifying exams; and she filled out the form. No guarantees that her professors sent it to the appropriate place - but she has never not been shown as having no major before) so all her credits are showing up as electives and no work in her major . Her professor sent her to the wrong office to work it out, now she has another appointment to try and straighten this out - plus try to figure out whether or not her professor had her request the right number of hours for the piano (major class). IF not, she has to take those extra hours next semester. I think she is about to go through the roof soon! I have no idea whether or not she has gotten to the other side of campus to fill out yet another tax form so she can get paid for her work all semester - and.... We are planning to visit, take her some good, home cooked frozen meals and out to dinner soon. I think we are going to get to meet her freshman English prof who has been such a blessing in all of this.

Also after much hassle we finally got results - sort of- for other child. X-rays do show something officially. Now we are waiting to hear if it is something for us to be concerned about and where we go from here.

Thanks for your ongoing prayers over such triflings compared to the really heartbreaking. I wish I could say I was faithfully offering up these petty annoyances for the 3 children, the mom who lost her baby and so many other much more grievous crosses - but honestly, though I try, I'm such a wimp and complainer.

Janet
