We're finally able to replace our bathroom sinks ... they are in serious ill repair and are a constant eye sore. Soooooooooooooo....

Any recommendations? My contractor is recommending all in one sink/counter pieces. I want to go with white because I'm a plain Jane. I'll need to pick out fixtures, too. Any words of wisdom?

Thanks!

Love,

We replaced a pedestal sink before we moved. We got it at Lowe's-- very basic single sink with vanity (white).   We bought a faucet at Meijer for $40. I think we paid under $200 for the materials and like $100 for the plumber's labor.

Good luck!

My sink in my bathroom is awful too..too much water in this high use room is rotting out the cabinet. We have a pedestal sink ready to be installed. I was going for the simple elegance look...yeah, amid the mud and such...

I figure that all I need now is a drain in the floor and a fire hose for the end of the day clean-up...

We know it would be bad for the kids to hang on the thing, so we are going to build a little step stool around it so that no matter where the little munchkin comes from(side or front), he can reach the sink.

and if we end up selling, it will make the bathroom look bigger and neater.

If I were to go for any other style, I would look for something that can keep the water off of wood and maybe re-direct some of the over-spray back into the sink...?
I think white or off-white is great because you can change your mind as to color in the bathroom..which is nice when you have a gazillion colored towels or such.

Angie,

Are you buying direct from your contractor, or is your contractor just installing for you? If you're buying on your own --

Ikea has some lovely sinks at a good price, but I also highly recommend the "Contractor's Candy Store" (Or something like that . . . ) They have over-runs and leftovers from jobs.

We've done a bit of remodeling, and have bought everything from either Ikea's "as-is" area or from one of the contractor's second run stores around town (The ones we use are all in Phoenix, I can ask Bo for addresses) We've done cabinets, flooring, windows, doors, countertops, dishwasher -- from these places. When we're ready to re-do the kids' bathroom, I know that's where we'll head!

You're limited to what they have -- but sometimes that makes the decision easier! (less to choose from)

ooh! this reminds me, ck and see if there is a Habitat for Humanity re-store near you. They use the over-runs and such there to fund their projects and they have some great prices!

Great!

Fortunately, we'll keep our cabinets (they aren't what I would choose BUT they are in good shape.) We just need to replace the counters/sinks/faucets. Melanie, our contractor tends to find stuff for us at a really good discount but if he doesn't have something available, I'm happy to tell him that I want to go looking myself...which gets me to...

Anyone up on materials that these all in one sink/counters are made of? Pros/Cons? Manufacturers? Does IKEA's stuff stand the test of time?

Love,

Just be sure the sinks have that little overflow hole in case the drain is closed and someone forgets the water is running.....ya know how it goes....
We replaced a sink and got one without the little overflow option
I didn't think they even made them that way...
