Do you quarantine your whole family? I usually don't because then we'd spend all our days at home without any outside activities. I usually keep the sick one at home. If that's not possible we usually all stay home. Just wondering if I'm being thoughtless.

Well, we have 3 sick here and had plans for the day - I opted to keep everyone in, but I haven't always done that. I never know what the 'right' thing to do is...

depends on the ages of the kids and what they're going to do.. if my dh is working and not available, then often we all stay home.. it also depends on if they've had it and are getting well vs haven't had it yet.. and what it is they're going to do.. if they're going to be outside doing sports that's different than if they were going to visit someone with a depressed immune system.
plus we will give herbal preventatives so they may not get sick even with a sibling exposed.. so mostly, just like before the first gets sick, we can't know until they're sick so we let the not sick ones go places. The exception would likely be something I knew FOR A FACT that they'd be contagious before showing symptoms.. like chicken pox.

Depends on what we have. If it's a cold, I keep the sick one home. If it's a puking thing, everyone stays home til I know they're no longer contagious. It drives me bananas to arrive at a get together or something and have someone say, oh, Susie threw up this morning, but I think she's okay now... Any vomiting virus lasts weeks on end at my house as we have 11 people for it to sicken.

We just had this happen this past week and we all stayed home. The cold and flu is rampant here so I really don't want them to get sick and bring it home or pass on the sickness from this house.
I really think we will be opting out of quite a bit this school year because of sicknesses. It seems that the coughing, and colds are EVERYWHERE here. We don't have frost so the germs just get worse and worse. We will be doing a lot of outdoor activities though, thank God!

In general we at least slow down, if just for practical reasons...even if dh is home, the sick ones want momma, and I'm usually tired from being up at night with sickies (yes, we are going through this right now!). If the older two are symptom-free, I will try to let them go to things we have commitments to, like dance class and church activities, that kind of thing. If they, or we, had plans to go see a friend, I usually will talk to the mom and tell them the deal and let them decide if they want to take the chance. The older two often don't get sick every time the younger ones are.
