For the past 2 months (and the foreseeable future) we have been living with no kitchen. What was supposed to be a fairly quick remodel, had to be put on the back burner do to issues with my husband's business. While we did hook back up the stove, we have had no sink. My 10 yo dd has been washing dishes on the deck She would spray them off with the garden hose, wash them in a tub of soapy water, put the dishes on wire racks and spray them again with the garden hose. Not pretty, but it worked.
Yesterday we finished phase 1 of the remodel. We now have a butler's pantry where 2 closets and a pantry used to be. And it has a ... sink! My dd was standing at the sink last night rhapsodizing over the joys of running hot water, being able to stand up to do the dishes, and not getting soak when it was 50* outside.
Never thought we would be so happy to have a utility sink!

Some things we don't appreciate until we don't have them, that's for sure.

What a beautiful attitude, LeeAnn! I find great joy in the simplest of things as well! Nothing like an ode to melancholy (life without a sink) to make you sing an ode to joy!

Leann
Love the garden hose method.
I do understand exactly your feelings, been there too.
For six months we washed up in the lounge room and carried the water out to the garden. At first dd though it was fun like Little House on the Prairie. The novelty soon wore off.
Wonderful to have your sink back.

My oldest is on a retreat, with my camera. I will try to post pictures when he gets back.
I have wanted to do this for years. There were three awkward spaces that didn't really function for us, plus a landing from the garage. Each space was about 2 1/2 feet by 3 feet. We now have a room that is 7 by 10.
All that is left to do in there is the floor. It will be getting the same floor as the kitchen. But we put a indoor/outdoor carpet down for now.
I am having fun "loading" the room up! And my dd is enjoying washing the dishes. That will probably wear off though

She loves to tell her friends that complain about their chores what she has been going through just to wash dishes. We took pictures. I will have to remind her to save some pics to share with her children when they complain!

I sew a lot of stuff, clothes, household items, costumes, etc. Right now my big project is costumes for the local Catholic girls school affiliated with my son's high school. They are doing the Sound of Music, and I am making the costumes, banners and set dressings. Being a Catholic high school, the pay is not great, but more than enough for Christmas money!
I make cloth diapers, slings, shopping cart covers, and such.
I also make American Girl doll clothes to sell, with matching girl dresses, and 1st Communion style dresses for dolls.
I own 7 different machines My favorite machine is either of my Viking's. One is 13 years old, the other is 55 years old. I have 2 sergers, 1 industrial machine and finally 2 fairly new Singers.
