I would like to share something I am doing in case someone else finds it to be a good idea, and has the time and patience to complete it.
I have been making an A4 display page for each day of the liturgical calendar and one for the month. I have been displaying them in picture frames on our altar. This just happens to be on our dining table at the moment because we have a big table and still have room at one end.
I would like to keep the saint and month display pages on our dining table as long as possible though because it has really been helping our family to ‘notice’ the days saint or feast, and the month. I guess because when you are sitting to eat you really notice what’s on the table. Having a large picture to ‘study’ helps the saints to come alive in their minds too, they aren’t just names spoken. I have really come to see how ‘visual’ children are.
Here’s how I have been making these pages. I open a word file and type the saints name or the feast day, in a large font in bold. Then I go to google images and type in the saints name. I find an image I like with a large resolution, I copy the image and paste it below the title. Then in a medium size font I type what the saint is e.g. Martyr, and the days date e.g. September 30th. Then I go down a line and type their date of birth and death. Then I go down another line and write in bold large font ‘Pray for us!’. ( The whole page is centered.)
For the Months I write for example; Month of the Holy Rosary, put in a picture, and then at the bottom write October.
Now of course for some saints it is difficult to find a picture and others easy. You also have to know a little about your chosen saint to choose the right picture. I have been learning a lot about the saints this way. I try to choose the masters for a picture. Pictures that really tell a story. So it really is a saints picture study.
Now this is a time consuming project even though it is easy to make, and I’m hoping I can keep going. The children really look forward to seeing who ‘today’s saint’ is.
I would love to actually share what I am doing, but want to complete the liturgical year first. Also I’m not sure about the copy write issues for sharing it. And then lastly I’m not really very computer literate and so don’t even know how to share it in a workable manner. But I hope for some this may be a wonderful idea that they haven’t thought of before.
God bless,
Sharyn

Sharyn,
Sounds like a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing. Maybe summer would be a good time to put it all together.

Sharyn ... this is a great idea! You could also do them on card-stock so they hold up year-to-year ...
Wonderful!

I do a similar thing, and we love it. We glue the pictures to cardstock and laminate them so we can keep them from year to year to put on our family altar. I never thought of putting the name and other info on the cardstock, though. Great idea, Sharyn!

I really like the idea of putting them in a picture frame. My displays usually fall over, this might actually work for us! Thanks!
