We have not used scented candles for years - because of children with respiratory problems. This year I am having a great yearning for beautiful scented candles and lace tablecloths - Yankee has some lovely fall scents. Does anyone have an idea about whether Yankee candles are safe?

Although I love Yankee candles too, I've started avoiding them due to the paraffin wax they use. I don't have time now to elaborate but you can search and get information about the concerns related to paraffin candles. Now, I try to stick with soy or beeswax candles. But I do miss those Yankee scents!

We make beeswax candles with essential oils in them. I make them in jely jars so is super easy. They don't seem to bother our asthma or give me headaches.

Could you provide some info on how you make beeswax candles in a jelly jar? What kind of essential oil do you use?

what about the soy candles? I saw some that smelled lovely. They said they burn cleaner.. would those be more like beeswax or paraffin?

Ooh, I would love to know too - I have beeswax blocks and essential oils - would I just warm the beeswax in a crockpot, add essential oils and put in a jar with a wick?

I wonder too. I saw some lovely soy tin candles at Kohls. Also - I have a daughter with a soy food allergy - I wonder how it works with a soy candle?

That's pretty much what I do. The only "trick" is that you have to pour in a little bit, about an inch, of melted wax, let harden, add a bit more, let harden and so on. If you simply fill the jar as it hardens it will pull away from the wick and you will have voids in the candle. Also I tie the wick to a Popsicle stick to hold it in place.
We make these as Christmas gifts each year. the kids decoupage tissue designs on the jars and we seal the designs with spray poly.
