Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was prompted to a web search after reading in our newspaper about the National Parks system realizing there was this disturbing trend called "nature deficit disorder" and they're trying to establish more science education and research at the parks to attract more young people. Anyway, I searched the computer and actually found some man coined this term a few years ago and is trying to pass a bill called No Child Left Inside.

I found it ironic since so many of us that homeschool try to prevent exactly that. Since I'm new to homeschool, I'm still retraining my brain that it's OK to not have the kids sitting at desks doing busy work all day. There is value in being outside and exploring and listening and even doing our lessons out there. Many of you seasoned homeschoolers know, they're not learning exactly the same things they would in a traditional school, but there is certainly value in what they are learning and how their minds are growing and developing.

Here's a couple of links:

I actually have Richard Louv's Last Child in the Woods out from the library and in my TBR pile right now. Looks like it's going to be an interesting read.

It's a very interesting topic - shortly after Last Child in the Woods was first published we book disucssion of it here. We filled up 6 pages worth of chatting about it.
