Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

No, but I read her other book, "Help for the Harried Homeschooler" and I liked it. Practical and amusing. I've considered buying the Life Skill book, and would love to hear a review??

MacBeth,
I bought this book awhile back & it's been sitting in my "To Be Read Pile". I thumbed through it and here are the chapter titles.

Responsibility in the Small Things: Don't Start Too Early or Too Late
People Skills: Getting Along and Resolving Conflict
In the Home Skills: Everyone Lives Somewhere
Life Navigation: Getting Along in That Great Big World
Time Organization: Managing Your 7/24/365
Space Organization: Managing Physical Space and Stuff
Around the House: Fixing and Maintaining Stuff
Money, Money, Money: Can You Handle It?
Healthy Habits: Self-Care Skills for Your One and Only Body
Your Mind's Life: Using Your Marvelous Brain
Spiritual Habits: The Wellspring of Life
Decision Making: Practice for Every Day for the Rest of Your Life
Creativity: Leaving a Little Beauty Behind
Celebration Skills: Finding Joy in the Everyday

Each chapter heading correlate with that chapter's "Maxim of Maturity" & Transferable Skills.

Chapter 1

Maxim of Maturity
Responsibility begins in small things and it should be timed well. By starting too early or too late to expect things from a child we may groom someone who can't do anything for himself or others.

Transferable Skills
Positive attitude toward work and a good work ethic; eagerness to continue to grow and learn; ability to take responsibility for, and accept consequences of, own actions; adaptibility to helpful routines; attention to detail; capacity for staying with a job until completion.

Each chapter has a Life Skills Checklist at the end.

The appendix lists "A Life Skills Toolbox of Resources" for many of the chapters. Just glancing through them, I notice some Protestant resources. Most are general resources.

Anyway, if you would like to know something more specific, just let me know. I would be happy to look through the book some more.

Angela

Some of these things come naturally in a larger family. This looks really good, and being the practical girl that I am, it seems that it would fit in well with my family vision project.

Hmm, Kevin probably didn't realize that this little project could cost him book money!

I've read it and am currently mixing some of the ideas in w/ my kid's chores section of mt MROL notebook.

What would you like to know specifically? I own the book and recommend it often.

Just wanted to say that I heard Christine speak at a conference this weekend and she was wonderful. My 15 year old kept leaning over saying," We do that", "You always teach the younger kids that" :) So I didn't learn a whole lot, but the book looks great and her delivery and ideas are great. I picked up some new tips and will be telling young parents about the book.
