Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

In a post JennGM asked about Catechisms: Sylvia asked:

Quote:
Has anyone used the Our Holy Faith Books from Neuman Press or the Little Flowers Family Apostalates lesson plans? Looks like they both use the Baltimore Catechism with it.

I'm re-asking about Our Holy Faith

Anybody?

I have Our Holy Faith for 1st grade. What kind of things do you want to know about the series, Maryan?

I was very interested in the Little Flowers Family Aposolate lesson plans, but their family has faced so many financial hardships that prevented them from printing them. I'm not sure if they're printing them yet. They weren't the last time I looked.

Yes, theQ&A comes from the Baltimore Catechism, as it says in the description. Is there something else you wanted to know, Maryan?

I don't have the whole set, but I have some copies of the 2nd grade catechism. I think this is the series that OLRS used years ago.

Sorry ladies. I don't know why I didn't ask more specific questions.

I was wondering how the format differs from the Baltimore Catechism? What activities or questions does it have? Which do you prefer BC or Our Holy Faith? Why?
Do you have the Teacher's Manual? What kind of activities does it include?

I like the BC (am loving doing the Angel food readers with it Jennifer MacIntosh). But was wondering about switching up some years with one of these books.

This probably differs with the different grade level books, so keep in mind I only have the 1st grade book.

Here is the TOC:
1. The Church - God's House
2. God Our Heavenly Father
3. The Lord's Prayer
4. God's Goodness in Sending His Son to Us
5. The Childhood of Jesus
6. The Public Life of Our Lord
7. The Greatest Proof of Jesus' Love - the Passion and Death
8. The Resurrection and Ascension
9. God the Father and God the Son Show Their Love by Sending God the Holy Spirit
10. Mary, Our Heavenly Mother

Prayers
First Communion Catechism

Each unit has several pictures (all b/w) and is written in a style similar to the *lesson* portions of the St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism. The BC used is based on the revised BC.

Well, I suppose I'd say the BC...mainly because it is working well for us. We have a very comfortable rhythm set in working with it and reading along with the liturgical year. I guess it's one of those, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" situations. Consistency is a big help around here as well, so that is a factor for me.

I do have the TM for the 1st grade. I would recommend getting it if you go with this series. The meat of the lesson is in the TM. Along with the lesson, there are these great "virtues and practices" at the end of each lesson that I just love. Another feature worth mentioning is that they recommend further reading after each section. Their recommendations are really great books. For example, they have coordinated the 1st grade lessons/units with reading in Their Hearts are His Garden. That's not the only additional reading resource, but it's one of the primary ones from this grade level.

In addition to the normal lessons, there are several "Liturgical Feasts" lessons that are very nice! These are only in the TM.

There is no TM for the second grade book, but there are for all the other grade levels.

HTH in your decision making, Maryan! Wish I had other grade levels to review for you!

As someone who owns a lot of different catechisms I would recommend for the most part sticking with the same one. I have found trying to use several unworkable. I use a spine text (Living my Religion) and read others where I feel it will be useful.
If I remember correctly someone from another board I used to go to recommended the BC as a main and series like LMR and OHF as a reader, but this is not something I have done.

I have OHF bk 1 too and must purchase the TM for it as it does seem to need it.
