I am looking for a narrated CD of Peter and the Wolf with an accompanying picture book.
The only one I can find has an edited ending with the wolf. I want the original ending.
Any ideas?

Is it the same series as the Carnival of the Animals book/CD? That's the only one I've been able to find. I 'm planning on just buying a Peter and the Wolf book, and using my old cassette recording to go along with it.

I'm still on the search! I bought a picture book and CD on amazon only to find they both had changed endings- the wolf is brought to the zoo at the end.
Anyone know of a narrated CD and picture book with traditional ending?

I think it may be. I had no idea it would be so hard to find an unchanged version!

Just a month a go I went to a theater performance of "Peter and the Wolf" with one of my daughters and they had an even newer, more politically correct ending.
Peter and the hunters took the wolf back to the forest far away to freedom... yeah right.?
You might want to check antique versions.

Here's the version we have ... Sergei Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf ... and my youngest loves it! He reads it and plays the cd and has loved this one since we got it back on 2006. His interest encouraged me to get him the ballet done by the Royal Ballet (but kids not adults) .... and of course, we love the Disney version

Ugh...PC revisions of classics - like the Little Red Hen stories where she shares with everyone, even though they didn't help out. I hadn't heard this about the Peter & the Wolf versions.

I've been looking used too and I haven't been able to find a single original version for either a picture book or narrated CD. Mary G, since you recommended your updated version I will give that one a try! Thanks everyone!

In the versions I'm familiar with, the story ends as the parade of characters escort the wolf to the zoo and one can hear the duck, swallowed whole, still quacking inside the wolf's belly. As far as I have read, this is the original ending. Is that the ending you're looking for?
Anyway, are you only looking for book-CD combos? I don't have a recommendation for a picture book that comes with accompanying CD; my method has been to download an mp3 from Amazon and then check the book versions we most enjoy out from the library.
As for the music: we have this one. Nicely done.
My favorite book versions:
Ian Beck's - Slightly cartoony, I suppose, but I like the stylized feel of the illustrations, and the inclusion of the appropriate instruments on each page is nice for my little ones.
Vladimir Vagin's - Unfortunately OOP, and the ending has a slight change (the duck, still alive, jumps out of the wolf's belly before the wolf is locked up at the zoo). But the illustrations are just lovely.
