is now refusing to nurse during the day. She was sick all last week and although she is very healthy right now, she is still breathing through her mouth, so she refuses to nurse much. She nurses and stops to breath through her mouth, then nurses and repeats the pattern over and over until she gets tired of it and walks away. She nurses perfectly fine through the night. She does not have a stuffy nose. I know because she nurses for a very long time during the night with no problem.

I am stumped! I am just heartbroken at not being able to comfort her during the day. Is this what you woul call a nursing strike?

i don't think it's a nursing strike. she's probably afraid she won't be able to breathe easily.
maybe wiping her nose wih a tissue before nursing and letting her know she'll be fine would help.

No, not what I would call a nursign strike either. Maybe she is still slightly stuffy though not noticibly so to you. When she is fully awake she could be more aware of it, when she isn't so at night as she is probably half asleep. I second trying to clear out nasal passageways a bit before trying to nurse - just encourage a nose blow. Another idea is to steam up the bathroom by running a hot shower and nurse in there with the steam, helps with breathing somewhat.
