Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Quote:
Gregoria Martinez, 94, might seem like your typical grandma. She made quilts for her grandchildren, encouraged them to go to church, prayed for them, and gave advice.

Except the Vernon grandma didn't have just a handful of grandchildren when she died Tuesday.

She had nearly 300.

Ninety-eight were grandchildren; 164 were great-grandchildren and 16 were great-great-grandchildren — all descendants of her own 11 offspring.

WOW! What a remarkable legacy of family.

My dad was one of eleven and I thought I had a lot of cousins - but there were only 43 of us. We would have had to double our numbers .

These are the things I dream about. I have NO COUSINS. Yep, My mom is an only child and my dad's sister married very late in life and had no children so no cousins. You can imagine how boring family reunions are

I'm so jealous of big families with lots of cousins!

That is wonderful. My mom would be so jealous. She only has 40 grandchildren. But that is way more than any other old lady at the beauty parlor!

Lol, my MIL has 44, 46 if you count one son's 2 stepchildren. There is another older lady in town who has about the same and views it as a sort of competition. MIL always frets about whether she is entitled to count the stepchildren because she's afraid it would seem like bragging!

Awesome!
The comments on that article are a real sadness though I'm not surprised.

I am an only child and my husband is an only child so our kids will not have any cousins (like Mimi). I hardly knew my six cousins and my husbands cousins were all at least fifteen years older than him. Plus, my kids only have one living grandparent. Instead of having a huge family of relatives, we say we have "a relative". I hope and pray that our kids will stay close and have lots of kids so that we can be part of a big family like this one.

That was such an uplifting story. My mil had 14 children but only 27 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, so farm. Of the 27 grandchildren, 5 of them are ours; most of dh's siblings only had 2.

I didn't bother reading the comments. I can well imagine what people would say.

It is so wonderful to see people who are thankful / proud of having many grandchildren. My grandma is angry that we're having more kids...she has 4 grandchildren. We didn't have "family reunions" but it was special when all 11 of us got together for the holidays...

Great story!

All those negative comments just make me want to have a bunch more kids!
