Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am trying to begin a Blue Knights Club for our home school community, and I do not see anywhere in the leader's manual how the boys earn the badges to put on the material "breastplate" that they wear as a uniform.

When my daughter was involved in Little Flowers, she had to complete at least X amount of the 10 activities on the worksheet to earn a patch.

Does anybody who is familiar with this program have any suggestions to help me properly start this club?

Thanks!

I don't have my leader's manual in front of me, but from what I remember, in the back there are the pages that are in the handbook. There you will find the list of suggested activities to earn the badges. As far as badge placement goes, I think they go on the material breast plate. In our old group, we made our own costumes. The "chain mail" or chest part of the armor was made out of frozen juice can lids held together by chain. We had a material cape on the back and had talked about displaying badges there, but never did get around to doing that.

I hope that helps a little.

God bless,

Yes, I see the list of activities for each virtue, but is there a minimum requirement for earning the patch? If we split the boys up by ages, what would be the minimum for ages 5-8 and then for ages 9-12? Half for the younger ones and all ten of them for the older boys?

I like your idea of making your own costumes!

Thanks!

It varied for my boys depending on how much time between meeting, but basically the same as Little Flowers...finish the activities & memory verse in their manual.

Bless you for starting a BK club! My boys enjoyed it so much!

Sorry, I was answering when you posted.

It seemed to depend on what our leader decided more than anything else. She would have the younger boys read the memory verse or a prayer rather than memorize it. Our meeetings were very different though...rather than monthly...we met biweekly so it was a challenge to finish everything in the manual, especially for the younger kids.

My son is in a group led by one of our homeschool dads. The boys range in age from about 5 to 10. The leader says if they do 3 activities on the list, you can sign them off for the badge. It's just whatever the parents and leader agree on.

I'm going to be leading a LF group this year (ours disbanded last year due to some problems with location, discipline, etc) and I am hoping to add a few activities to the ones in the books, that could be done during the meetings and counted. most of the activities listed seem especially difficult for younger kids and ones who don't read or write well.

Just to give credit where credit is due, it was not my idea to make the costumes...it was our leader when we lived in Virginia. The Blue Knighs got to wear them on Corpus Cristi when we processed down Main St. following the Blessed Sacrament. (Oh, those were the days!)

In our old group, the mothers organized the meetings, but the dads ran them and each family picked a month. We did once a month, I think, or perhaps twice a month. It worked well. In our current group, my husband runs the meeting while I run the Little Flowers. We only have our 3 boys and one other. I still think it is worth it.

I am really not sure on the amount of activities that earn a patch. We really never concnetrated on that. Perhaps I'll start looking into that more. In our old group the boys had to be 5 and then they were in with all the others. The older boys would help the younger boys.

God bless,

One more thing...

I was just reading over the leader's guide trying to see if there is a set amount of activities that need to be done to earn the badge. It says that the decision on how much gets done rests with the parents. So, the answer would be no, there are not any required number of activities.

God bless,

Thank you, ladies, for your time in responding.

Things are falling in place with the planning. We have a male adult to do the virtue talk and a virtuous teenager to do the Bible Memory Shout and play the games. The moms will do the crafts.

I am now looking for free coloring pages for St. Stephen and St. Peter for the first month since we won't have the member's books for the first meeting. I was hoping Charlotte had some at her website, but I didn't see them listed. Does anybody have any suggestions?   My "search" found no black and white clipart.

Thanks again!

I would like to get a picture book that discusses hope for the 2nd unit (2nd month really) of year one of blue knights (helmet of hope) for 5-6 yr olds. All I can find is picture books or easy readers about hope and coping after a loved one dies. I want a more overarching sense of hope as we catholics see it. Thank you!
