We have 2 freezers which think has helped out a lot in our ability to purchase bulk items. I am now thinking that a 2nd fridge would also reduce the frequency of our grocery trips.
Does anyone have 2 fridges? Just wondering if the expense will pay off in the long run.

We have 2 fridges and I would be lost without it. (plus one freezer also). I keep my week of milk in it. And extra cheese, butter etc.. Comes in very handy when I have to prepare things for a special home meal or if I need to take something somewhere. I can hide it in the fridge downstairs and know it won't get eaten by mistake I got my 2nd one second hand so it wasn't a big expense. Maybe you can check around for a second hand one.

I have a spare fridge in my garage that I use sometimes, and one at the beach for the summer (in a large locker with electric). Both are definily helpful, and I only have 4 kids.

We have 5 children. We have two full sized fridges and one 17 cubic ft deep freeze. I use them all, unapologetically.
I don't really know how much of a difference it makes on my electricity bill. The deep freeze holds bulk meats, mostly. Now that we are in the country, I have venison and a 1/4 cow in it, along with lots of frozen chicken from the warehouse store. I also keep extra loaves of bread and grains that keep better in the freezer.
I keep frozen fruits and veggies and frozen concentrates in the freezer portion of the second fridge. The fridge portion allows me to buy 2 weeks worth of milk, which means I don't have to go to the grocery store every week. It also holds extra veggies, cheese, yogurts, and other things that will keep for several weeks. Its also very nice to have when we are having company and I need to store large pizza boxes or sheet cakes or veggie trays, too.
Our fridge in the kitchen holds the usual.
If you decide to get a 2nd fridge, I highly recommend NOT getting a side by side. This way the fridge portion will be more useful when you need to store large items.

I bought a 2nd refrigerator a year ago and love having it. I was originally going to buy a freezer just for the meat I'd buy on sale, etc. But a friend told me of her plans to get a 2nd fridge instead, and I began to think of how much more helpful that would be. I could actually get through an entire week without running out for more gallons of milk! And I looked down the road and realized that it would be handy for keeping drinks cold when we have a houseful of teenagers and would like for their friends to congregate at our house.

Now I ended up buying a side-by-side refrigerator, but it became our main kitchen fridge. Our old smaller, freezer-on-top Maytag went down to the basement. The freezer in the basement refrigerator is plenty big for our extra storage needs and I love having room to store the milk, larger leftovers, etc. To be honest the refrigerator section never approaches being full, but I am still happy with the convenience of having both.

Our second fridge is just a fridge, similar to a stand-up freezer. We came across it by accident at Sears and are thrilled to have it. My husband goes to Costco and buys a weeks worth of milk (7 or 8 gallons!). We can also stock up on other refrigerated items when they go on sale. I am sure it saves us money and definitely time. We also have a freezer.

I have a really large fridge in the kitchen and a large freezer in the garage. Now you all have me thinking of another fridge. It would be handy...
mmmm......
Doesn't take much to convince me to spend money.

I have a large freezer in the garage with a 1/2 a cow in it currently and some organic chicken. The meat is purchased in the co-op and so I buy chicken for a month at at a time and beef twice a year.
And now, I have a side-by-side refrigerator freezer out there, too. It's great for storing huge bags of vegetables and extra milk. Inside I have a new armoire-style with a freezer on the bottom. It IS nice to do a week's grocery shopping and really, truly be able to stock for the entire week.

We have a fridge in the garage and like MacBeth, I only have 4 children, but the fridge helps immensely. I went to Costco last week and stocked up on some items. It really saves $$, too, when you don't have to go to the grocery store and pick up certain odds-and-ends.
Here in Sacramento, there is a local yahoo group called, "Freecyclers." You might have one in your area and can pick up a fridge for free. We've been able to get a corner entertainment unit and CD stand...you never know...

I love Freecyling! We have gotten a few great things (a brand new pampered chef mini-muffin pan, a leather book of all the Sherlock Holmes stories in like-new condition, a daiper genie to replace a broken piece of ours, etc.) We recently got rid of an ugly old chair we had in the unfinished part of our basement. I didn't want it but felt guilty just putting it out for trash. A young guy who lived in some condos near here took it off our hands. It felt great to know that someone would actually appreciate this horrid old thing!

My second fridge is just like Molly's. All fridge. Love it, do not want to live w/o it. Highly recommend it!

When we bought a bigger fridge our old one went down to the garage. We use it all the time as we are big fruit and veggie eaters. Whenever fruit is a good price I buy it by the boxful and can store it in the second fridge.

I have a large fridge in the kitchen and two chest freezers in the root cellar and two old refrigerators there too.
One chest freezer is for the 50# bags of flours I buy from our co-op. The second one is for cases of frozen fruits and veggies, whole wheat wraps and torrillas, homemade spaghetti sauce, homemade pesto for the year, frozen veggies from the garden.
One fridge can hold 12 gallons of milk which is what I buy at one time when the big boys are home. Also cases of yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.
The other refrigerator is for fresh fruits and veggies and misc. I guess it's a bit much but there are 8-10 of us around here.

Ooh, what kind of armoire-style fridge did you decide on? I was looking at those the other day and drooling...
We really do want to have two fridges at the new house for all the reasons y'all have been saying.
