Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son will be receiving his FHC in May 2010, and I am looking for ideas to help prepare essentially him but also us for the sacrament.

I have been reading the boards and so far have come up with, the FHC notebook ( which sounds wonderful) and the St.Joseph's catechism books that I will be ordering from Amazon. We also have a couple ( 2- 4 ) books on the sacrament.

I am hoping to get

1) Suggestions for books/ websites etc to help with the prep.

2) Any ideas from those that have passed this way ('') to make this more concrete and thereby meaningful to him.

In some ways I am hoping that the fact that its meaningful to his dad and me rubs off on him, but at the same time, I want to do something special with him this year, in prep for these two big sacraments that are coming up.

What I currently consider essential to do for First Holy Communion

Reading The King of the Golden City aloud.

Going through the St. Joseph Baltimore First Communion catechism.

Reading about the Eucharistic saints and miracles in the Little Catechism on the Eucharist.

And most importantly the family as a whole (including me) studies the mass with a concentration on the Most Holy Eucharist. This started with the CHC Mass book project and the fact that I prefer to do such hands-on projects as a family.

Current books used are various missals plus My Mass Book by Regina Press for pre-school/Kindergarten, an old copy of The Essence of Holy Mass from CHC (the current recommendation could be used) for grade two, A pocket guide to the Mass for grades four to five, and [The How-To Book of the Mass for the adults.

I start by reading the relevant section from the Adult's guidebook as preparation. [I plan to follow the study guide at the back with my oldest child next time around.]

As a group we go through the relevant section of the Mass using a missal,

The older children then read the relevent section of their books while I read to the younger children

Then they add to their mass book while we discuss that mass part, why they choose that picture and anything else that comes up.
