I have a bazillion of these little test strip tubes from my diabetic's test strips.
I keep thinking I could use them for something but haven't come up with anything yet beyond a safe storage for broken sewing machine needles but that only requires one and I have a lot (and an ongoing growing supply).
So, ideas anyone???
edited to add: I was thinking I could glue them together side by side in a tree shape for an Advent calendar of sorts (the lids are flip top attached) but does that sound strange?

Are they about the diameter of a quarter, Michelle? The ones my dad uses are about that size.
They'd make great specimen containers for the nature shelf (you could stack and display entire collections of smallish rocks, bark, small bugs, seed collections) or for the kid's naturalist bags. We're always carrying around a beetle or some other treasure we might want to view more closely at home. A smallish bottle like this would be perfect!
A fine point sharpie works very well to label the little white lid.

sort beads? you could hot glue the beads inside onto the lid so you'd know which held what....
almost anything you could do with those old film canisters... have you googled taht to see if anythign comes up that woudl work?
hey could you make tapered candle holders out of them? wrap in ribbons or something and glue together?
having a mental block.....

Seems like somewhere I saw the little film canisters used for making rockets. Your containers look like they'd work for that, too. I like your Advent idea too, and the nature/collection idea. I'll keep thinking...

Oh, Liz , you said just about what I was going to say. Michele - do science projects count as crafts? I have no idea what my boys are using those things for , but I recently noticed that all the dog med bottles (about same size and shape as the little test strip containers) and such have been disappearing and the boys are negotiating over who gets which ones. They are currently working on building boats (motorized) so it may be related - OR the boats may just be the foil to keep me off guard about the real uses . I've gotta go ask now.
I can ask and even have the boys write out directions (wouldn't that count as writing a process paragraph?) if you are interested.

DH drilled blocks of wood to hold test tubes for rooting cuttings and holding flowers on the windowsill. I have a block of 3 tubes for each of the 4 windows over my sink in the kitchen. Are the tubes large enough for that?

I love those container, Michele, so I'm all ears on ideas. I was thinking that they are similar to the film canisters, so maybe looking for ideas in that genre might help.

I have a few ideas, mind you, they are not exactly earth shattering...
1. cover the tube with a strip of pretty fabric or scrap book paper, a glue stick would work. Glue (probably hot glue here) a small silk or clay rose on the lid. They could hold earrings... They could be a really cute stocking stuffer. Of course, you could glue all sorts of different things on the lid- silk birds or butterflies, bows, wooden shapes, the sky's the limit.
some variations
Cover the tube with golf or outdoorsy paper. Using model magic white clay, roll a ball that will fit on the lid. Use a pencil's eraser to "dot" the ball all over- when dry, glue your "golf ball" on the lid- fill with small tees. Nice gift for a golfer.
A sewing kit- glue a cotton ball unto your lid. Using a round scrap of fabric, cover the cotton ball, glue ribbon around the perimeter of the lid. Cover your tube as above- now fill it with a few needles, a tiny spool of thread and some safety pins- the top can be used as a pin cushion.
ACtually, I just had another thought. On your computer print out "Open only in case of emergency"- glue the strip around the container, decorate the lid, (I would probably use model magic to make some pinwheel candies)
and then inside put one wonderful chocolate truffle. I may do something like that for my sister's stocking stuffers this year!
thanks for the great idea
